One of my favorite fantasy and comic artists has passed away.

I have an 1st edition print of his Battlestar Galactica poster on my wall, as well as the Ringo Starr portrait from Mad Magazine.

Some of his stuff is NSFW, but here's the "official" unofficial site.

Just saw that on Google News.

Very few of the great from the Golden Age of Science Fiction are now alive. Something is missing from my life. :(

He was one of my inspirations when I was a high school artist. I abandoned the fantasy genre ages ago, as it is filled with dreck, but his work is still the most powerful of its kind.

I don't know why I hate finding out news like this more in a Forum or on Facebook than on the regular news, but I do. I haven't seen it in my regular news sources yet. Of course, his death may be overshadowed by Lena Horne's for impact in the Entertainment/Arts sections.

In watching Painting with Fire, you can see how he used himself as a model for some of his most famous paintings (much more effectively than Boris Vallejo, I might add...)

I've had Fire & Ice sitting in my DVD library for years and don't know why I always gloss over it when looking for something to watch. Granted, it's not that great, but the character design is awesome!

I LOVED the Covers he did for the original paperback editions of Conan the Barbarian.
One of the great Fantasy/Sci Fi artists.

They were showing a nice documentary on Frank on the Independent Film Channel a while back. Always one of my favorite fantasy artists.

Noooooooooo:(

So many Eeries and Creepys! So many many fabulous and amazing covers!

Here's a good Conan reprint I have:

Classic!:)

Bye Frank! You da man!

Sad news. Growing up as a teen in the 80's I had a couple of Frazetta art compendiums that were FANTASTIC!! These softcover magazine-size books were a 4 volume set (I think), and many "heads" and comic fans had them, including me. He was the best in his field.

A Titan Falls

Frank Frazetta essentially invented, or re-invented, fantasy painting in the late 50s/early 60s. His expressionistic brushstroke, combined with an unsurpassed knowledge of human anatomy and a forceful flair for composition, set the standard for all sci-fi/fantasy/horror book and magazine covers through the 70s, 80s and up to the present day. His paintings for the Conan and Tarzan paperbacks of the 60s created a revolution in publishing that continues even now. Today there would be no Boris Vallejo, Hildebrandt Bros. or Drew Struzan -- at least, not as we know them -- if not for Frazetta's inimitable, inspiring, eye-popping, groundbreaking work in the field.

A legend, a master, a titan: Mr. Frazetta, you will be missed.

Oh man, what a bummer.

I paint pewter fantasy miniatures as a hobby, and my backbench is loaded with Frazetta art for when I need some inspiration.

Miss ya, Frank.

Wow, that's a bad thing. I hope he has plenty of fans to remember his work (I'm sure he does) as well as continue it in a good way. My memories of his incredible style will continue, although I can't do much more than sketch a picture for my kid.

Oh Damn! The world just got a bit suckier.

I was half expecting you to post a pic of "Egyptian Queen". I've got an unpainted resin maquette of her sitting in a box on my workbench. It's my favorite of all his "pin-up" style paintings.

I always did love the way he drew women.
