As an atheist in the south I often hear the claim that america was founded as a christian nation. I usually like to respond by point out the things that the founding fathers said and other facts that show otherwise. I have noticed that I have a deficit as most of the sites I am aware of that list said quotes do not cite primary sources.

Can anyone link me to a site that does cite primary sources for the quotes that we typically use in separation of church and state discussions?

Thanks

Do you have some sort of immoral agenda you are trying to push on these God-fearing Southerners?

Totally. I can't wait to make sure that their children's moral centers are destroyed through knowledge of evolution. Once that is done I can use the moral imbalance and my ethics centrifuge to power my mecha-godzilla and rule the world/stop walgreens from selling kinoki foot-pads.

Tell bubba that some of the founding father's had slaves. That might get him curious enough to find out more about them.

(I'm sick of the founding fathers, btw. They remind me of old rock stars. There's smarter people around today that get no attention. Nostalgia can be unhealthy.)

Check out the Treaty with Tripoli

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
