Psychic Predicts the Emmys

Trouble is, how would you set the bar for a truly "paranormal" performance? It's a matter of predicting who will be chosen by the judges, so it's not exactly random. A good judge of form in that area could do quite well by perfectly normal means.

And win a bit on Ladbrokes, too, I suppose.

Shouldn't they get 100% of the winners right if they are really psychic?

The way to test them is to have some number of people predict the winners and compare the psychic's predictions with those predictions.

A psychic predicts the Emmys... A truely monumental task that must be...

They'll (who is "they") hand out Emmy's left and right, to anyone, for no good reason... Emmys usually come paired with a "Vote Ah-nold" button...

Psychic prediction

Well, as excepted, the psychic tanked. Unless I miscounted, she only got one correct. Her failure was probably due to Mars retrograde which scrambled her psychic signals. :D

oops...

Dyslexia strikes again. "Excepted" was, of course, supposed to be "expected".

Well, the million isn't in danger from this guy...of his predictions for the top honors...the easiest, in fact, to both guess at and to "predict" psychically" as it were, he did miserable.

Drama -- Six Feet Under -- West Wing won
Comedy -- Sex and the City -- Everybody Loves Raymone won
Actor (drama) -- Michael Chiklis -- James Gandolfini won
Actress (drama) -- Francis Conroy -- Eddie Falco won
Actor (comedy) -- Tony Shaloub -- WOOWOO an astonishing psychic moment there!!! Wow. Sends shivers up and down my spine. Call Schwartz! Call Larry King! Call Art Bell!

Actress (comedy) -- Sarah Jessica Parker -- Deborah Messing won.
Best Comedy/Variety -- Jay Leno -- The Dayily Show with John Stewart won.

I count that as one of seven. I did better than that just watching and guessing. It begs the question, of course, why the AP even did this story, and will they avoid him next year.

Yes, why do news sources continue to print psychic predictions? You'd think by now that they wouldn't bother until some psychic, somewhere, actually starts to get predictions right. That would be news.

Starts me wondering... how does a purported psychic get his predictions onto the news reporting radar? What credentials are required? What record of past succe... er scratch that. Hmmm. Perhaps a hoaxy-type experiment is in order. Stay tuned.

Will they use him again ?

Yes !

Next year they can also quote "the man who's prediction came true last year"

(without actually saying how many he got wrong of course)

By exploiting the fact that news outlets are run by human beings who can be charmed, manipulated, and/or bought. Many of the how-to-make-money-as-a-psychic manuals have chapters full of specific information on developing good relationships with the media.

What record of past succe... er scratch that. Hmmm. Perhaps a hoaxy-type experiment is in order. Stay tuned.

Cool. Keep us informed!

Has ANYBODY got back to Salon and asked them to do a compare-and-contrast before-and-after on this woman TODAY??

This is why she will be invited back next year - no-one kicks up a public fuss when she tanks!

C'mon! Kick a few shins, you people!

It is the AP, Salon was just posting wire service stories. THe party that should be held responsible is the AP...thought they'll likely claim it was pure entertainment...

If anyone has any good ideas for contacting Editors at the AP, I am all for trying to do so and will lead the charge....

Compare it to someone like Robert Bianco, who is the TV critic for USA Today, who correctly called

Comedy
Actor(drama)
Actress(drama)
Actor(comedy)
(didn't guess variety)

Lynn Alber AP got 4 right

Tom ONeill wrote a book about the Emmy's. Got 2 right.

Matt Roush, TV Guide: 4 correct

Ken Tucker, Entertainment Weekly: 6 correct (only missed the West Wing, which everyone missed)

Diane Werts, Newsday: 4 correct

Apparently this psychic ability is no match for actual knowledge.

(btw, predictions available at http://www.goldderby.com

Thanks, just sent a note to the AP wondering when they were going to do a retraction or an expose' on this alleged "psychic" demonstrating that he is a fraud and a con man.

Also, I asked why the use the words "psychic" as opposed to "self-described" psychic as there is no scientific proof of any kind that "psychics" exist.

Realizing that the original article was a piece of entertainment, I don't really expect a reply. However, I felt good holding their own shoddy reporting up to them...sadly, however, I fear only the person who screens the email will get to read it.

You tried, HS4, you tried. Better than nothing!

Keep us informed if it DOES get an airing, though, OK?
