Protests for Homeopathic Treatment

Just a thought...

You're always hearing about people protesting for access to drugs such as AZT or zevirapine (sp?) in countries with high rates of HIV/AIDS. Why aren't they demanding access to homeopathic treatment? Or, on another note, they have access to all sorts of herbal and tribal treatments (100% natural, I'm sure), so why are they still demanding proper pharmaceticals? Makes you wonder...

On a side note, are there any internation homeopathic aid organizations, like 'Homeopaths Without Borders'?

Maybe they don't know about the existence of homeopathy (lucky them).

One would also have to conclude that the tribal remedies don't work.

Yes, several - Homeopaths without Borders is one of them.

I remember, I think it was on HH BB, Hans asked about the poor health record in countries where homoeopathy is widespread, and why, since homoeopathy is so cheap, couldn't it make a difference in Africa by curing AIDS? Especially, since one of the reasons given for the inability of homoeopaths in the First World to cure AIDS was that the body had already been irretrevably "suppressed" by antiretrovirals, so there was nothing homoeopathy could do for these patients. But in Africa there are squillions of people who've never had access to antiretrovirals, so wasn't that a good opportunity?

Hans was told that in that case why didn't he fund a homoeopathic mission to help AIDS in Africa!

The a little later I went back to the fact that the homoeopaths had claimed that there were many homoeopaths in Africa and India and it was a very successful healthcare system there. I enquired why, in that case, people were crying out for antiretroviral drugs, and the death rate from AIDS never seemed to slow up in the slightest until these were made available.

My post was deleted within two hours.

Barb, have you any evidence that these organisations have had any impact on disease incidence in the areas where they work?

A quick googling revelead the existence of federations such as "Homeopaths without borders", "Homeopaths without barriers" and "Homeopaths without frontiers". I propose they all unite under a new umbrella organization. "Homeopaths without limits" maybe ?

Homeopaths without scruples.

What is interesting is that India is now the center of an HIV/AIDS epidemic. Homeopathy has a strong following there... it will be interesting to see if homeopaths make any difference at all:
