Proposal: Warning Stickers on Bibles

Scroll down to the second article in the link ("Warning Stickers Needed"). This sounds like a good idea. Especially when you read about Church Leader Doyle Davidson's acolytes:

I wonder how the fundies would react to propsed warning stickers on their Bibles?
 
At the very least it shoud be given an ESRB rating of M

It would be a really long label since it would have to include most of the following..

Warning stickers on Bibles. It's been done for years.

Here in the USA it is normal for every hotel or motel room to have a Bible in it. This is the notorious "Gideon Bible" placed by the "Gideon Society" which exists for the purpose.

The only exceptions are really fancy hotels such as the Palmer House in Chicago or the Plaza in New York, and "hot sheets" motels that rent by the hour.

Maybe twenty years or so ago, some atheist outfit went around putting warning stickers on Gideon Bibles. I don't remember the exact wording but it was something like "may be hazardous to your sanity" analogous to the warnings on cigarettes.

Anyone else remember this, maybe with more details?

LOL I missed that one.

A side note to anyone who thinks it would just be easier and cheaper to take the Bible with and dump it in the incinerator on the way out... The Gideon's solicit and receive 'donations' from hotels where they place Bibles, so removing them increases room rates.

Why am I not surprised?

Hey - someone's gotta pay for the bibles... but, just maybe... if everyone made it a point to deliver it to the desk saying "I don't want this - keep this thing out of my room..." if the hotels would get the hint?

Cheaper all the way around to keep a supply of about 5 bibles for every hundred rooms in the hotel, and ask at check-in if they were wanted. Wanna bet they'd never run out?

Hmm. The Mormons kept the Gideons out? Are there books of Mormon in Utah motels? Or some other explanation?

Mark Twain called the Book of Mormon "chloroform in print". I have read it and must concur.

The Beatles made the Gideons famous in the non-US English speaking world in the song Rocky Raccoon. Apparently they were impressed by the ubiquitousness of Gideon Bibles on some tour of the USA.

This is much more elaborate that the one I remember, but I like it.

I have stayed in Salt Lake Marriott and yes there are BoM's in the rooms along with Bibles.

Wrong Book of Mormon though. :D
(There are at least three different versions with significant differences)
