Die at your own risk, mayor proposes

BIRITIBA MIRIM, Brazil (AP) -- There's no more room to bury the dead, they can't be cremated and laws forbid a new cemetery. So the mayor of this Brazilian farm town has proposed a solution: outlaw death.

Mayor Roberto Pereira da Silva's proposal to the Town Council asks residents to "take good care of your health in order not to die" and warns that "infractors will be held responsible for their acts."

I checked: a monetary penalty to the family, under the view that if someone died, their family contributed to it by not taking good care of them.

As with all such issues, I doubt anybody will really be fined; it is probably just a way for the mayor to get attention to the lack of land for development in the city.
 
Well, if you read the article, you will find out that it is just that. They admit it is a ridiculous proposition, and it is meant to ridicule and protest against the laws that makes it impossible for them to open new cemetaries.

What is harmfull about burning bodies, especially in a hot furnace?
 
Actually, crematories have a number of environmental issues. Burning bodies prodice a number of interesting compounds in themselves, even without the mercury fillings and other additions. Of course, it can all be overcome with proper temperatures and filtering.

There was a Greek island, in ancient times, that was considered so holy it was an affront to either be born or die on it. The pregnant and sick had to leave until they recovered. I'm not sure what they did about the elderly. I'm guessing it would have been very uncomfortable for the old to visit, with everyone staring nervously at you like they're going to drop dead any minute and profane the place.

Not unconstitutional per see, nut it runs contrary to the declaration of independence, inalienable right to life and all that.

Please feel free to read their constitution. It has 245 articles.

Personally I think it is a valid, and since it has received international attention, an effective form of protest.
