prince charles and the moon

From the article:
“There is no doubt that if we plant certain seeds at the right phase of the moon they grow quicker and produce more vigorous plants.”

Prove it. Let's see the evidence, Chuck.

From the article:
Biodynamic farming was founded early last century by Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian philosopher, scientist and social reformer. Steiner is best known for his schools, founded on the philosophy that the “whole child” should be nurtured.

Steiner also claimed he knew why blacks were black:

"But the people that didn't develop their id, that was too exposed to the influence of the sun, they were like plants: They produced far too much carbon under their skin - and became black. That is why the negroes are black."

More:
"Look at these colours, from the Negro to the Yellow population found in Asia. From those you have bodies which are once again containers of the most different souls, starting with the totally passive negro-soul, completely devoted to the surroundings, the outer physis, to the passive soul's second level in the different parts of Asia."

Furthermore, there were:
"such people, that are degenerated because the nervous system hardened at a much too early stage and didn't stay soft long enough - the last remnants of those are the Malayan race."

Another type of hardening relegated the Mongols to a
"lower class of people".

And you better behave in this life, because if you don't, you'll end up being non-white:
"A soul can be incarnated in any race, but if this soul doesn't become evil, it doesn't need to be reincarnated in a descending race, it will reincarnate later in a ascending race."

Ah, good old Charlie. He really is a Right Royal Pillock :p
from the article
Duchy Originals, the company set up by Charles to supply and market organic produce, already generates profits of more than £1m a year for his charities. A biodynamic line could boost profits further.
But his heart may be in the right place.

Wait, hang on...
Under the Steiner system each crop type is linked to one of the four traditional elements: earth, water, wind and fire.
I don't think they even use this in RPGs anymore o_O

You are reffering to 'sowing of oats'? I feel ill now.

Lord Haskins, a former adviser to Tony Blair on food and farming, said: “The (biodynamic) principles sound far-fetched but it would be justified if they can get a good price.”

Ah, I see. Give the customer what they want. With people like this around I'd be checking to see if they weren't slipping some 'Miracle Grow' into the water.

Rudolf Steiner is closely associated with Theosophy and the Waldorf schools. Whatever he might have said, it would be a mischaracterization to portray them as racist.

My kids went to one of their charter schools for a couple years. (grumble) Picture the social dynamics of being at a particularly busybody church (petty backbiting, donation politics, etc), but very 'new age' (in fact, this is its homebase).

Well he may not be a Moonie but he's certain a loony.

(As well as being the example creationists should use to disprove the theory of evolution - survival of the fittest ?! :) )

Don't forget that immense wealth is a form of fitness.

There could be something to be said for planting crops according to phases of the moon. A long long time ago, before there were regular calendars, planting your crops at the first full moon after the spring equinox, for example, could have been a rough guide to when the frosts were over. I'm just guessing here, but it seems maybe some early common sense got turned into daftness. After all, it's not recommended that you plant at any full moon, (for example) is it.

I trust Charlie will be following other pagan planting rituals, encouraging young people to shag in his fields or menstruating women to squat over them, to enhance fertility.

What is biodynamic agriculture?

Biodynamic agriculture is the oldest consciously organic approach to farming and gardening and is one of the most sustainable in existence. It is founded on a holistic and spiritual understanding of nature and the human being and builds on the pioneering research work of Rudolf Steiner.

Who was Rudolf Steiner?

Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) was an Austrian philosopher, scientist and social reformer who sought to extend scientific research beyond the existing parameters of natural science and investigate the non-physical, spiritual realities of life. Using a clear and accessible means for attaining spiritual knowledge, he offered insights that have inspired new approaches to medicine, education, the arts, social reform and economics as well as agriculture. Spiritual science follows a conscious methodology that can be followed up with rigorous thinking activity. The name given to this new branch of science is 'anthroposophy', a Greek word meaning 'wisdom of Man'.

That must take the prize for the sentence with the most logical inconsistencies.

More woo than a wood full of owls.

What the hell is this ◊◊◊◊? This isnt' science. Sombody tell The Times that this stuff isn't science. The article is covered in spin. 'Organic' and 'natural' associated with 'healthier food' does only 1 thing. It makes every other type of food technology look bad.

This is something I am morally apposed to. There is too many people promoting the irrational fear or hatred of food. It's irresponsible and dangerous. Nobody will be teaching my kids to fear meat or mass-produced foods. Bastards!

And that bloody rudolf steiner guy. He has schools set up everywhere. Even New Zealand. I hate 'philosophers' almost as much as I hate poetry. And I really hate poetry.

This also worrys me because of New Zealand's 'Green' image. No GE foods or anything. Everything is 'natural' here. What a crock. It is really annoying that the environmental movement is so strong here. It really seems science is only good when it benefits the wacko's philosophies.

Yeah right. And sheep dip is made of fairies' tears.

Whats sheep dip?
You get a nice ripe sheep and whip it up with sour cream and a touch of chilli sauce. Serve with crackers or crudites.

Sounds yummy. But how do you know when a sheep is ripe?
