Prince Andrew has been accused of and denies having sex with a minor in the US in a court case:

Buckingham Palace has denied "any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors" by Prince Andrew, after he was named in US court papers.

A woman named him in documents she filed in a Florida court over how prosecutors handled a case against financier Jeffrey Epstein.

She claims that between 1999 and 2002 she was forced by Epstein to have sex with the prince when she was a minor.

The palace said it would not comment in detail on the legal proceedings.

But a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: "This relates to long-standing and ongoing civil proceedings in the United States, to which the Duke of York is not a party.

"As such we would not comment on the detail. However, for the avoidance of doubt, any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue".

I hope we can pool our formidable critical thinking skills to resolve this allegation.

For some here the allegation will suffice. For me, there's not a lot to go on. It seems to be the case that she has been caught out on a lie previously in a similar vein (if Dershowitz's assertion is correct) so I'm struggling to believe it at this moment in time until further evidence is revealed.

IOW - I'm on the fence.

Wouldnt want to be Andy with the Queen at the mo'.

She is cool. Tough as nuts. Qualified mechanic and she know how to weild a spanner.

The girl was reputedly 17 when the offence occurred. That is above the age of consent in the UK, so it removes even the merest hint of paedophilia from the story. However, the element of coercion would be worrying if there were any truth to the tale. That said, there is a long way to go before the story can be accepted as having any relationship to reality.

True. But it is the royal family. Any truth and Andy is in trouble. The tabloids have an agreement with Will. They wont go so eseay on him

If that photo of Andrew with Epstein just after his release from jail is genuine, it's not a good look for the Prince. Doesn't prove anything, but you would think the Palace's media advisors would say "by the way Andy, stay away from this convicted pedophile for a while m'kay?"

What does that actually mean? He is unassailable. When all this is over, he will still be a pampered prince, in any possible circumstance you can think of.

Geezer is a bit munted. The tabloids will find something no matter how tenuous.

Andrew is a scumbag and has proven it over many years with his friendships with despots, gun-smugglers and members of the Gadaffi family.

Whether he had sex with an underage woman is almost irrelevant in the face of what he's already done.

So many golf courses, so many ski slopes, so many valets, but that six foot ironing board everywhere is a beaut.

I've never heard of him before, but according to this:

Epstein has provided millions of dollars to scientists such as Gerald Edelman, Murray Gell-Mann, Stephen Hawking, Kip Thorne, Marvin Minsky, Lawrence Krauss, Lee Smolin and Gregory Benford.[1][18][19] In 2006, Epstein's foundations sponsored a conference on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands with Hawking, Krauss, and Nobel laureates Gerard 't Hooft, David Gross and Frank Wilczek, covering such topics as unified gravity theory, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, the origins of language and global threats to the Earth.

...so he can't be all bad.

According to the Wikipedia page he was convicted of having sex with young women who he didn't realize were underage and who themselves had told him were not minors.

Of course, I do not know if this is completely true.

Fair enough. To be honest I've only been going on the tabloid headlines so far. The truth might be (probably is) far different.

I think I can speak for most Americans when I say that I didn't even know there was a Prince Andrew until just right now.

Helicopter pilot. Acted as a flying decoy for heat seeking missiles.

Apart from that pretty boring

Paedophilia isn't "having sex with minors who are under some arbitrary age limit" it's being sexually attracted towards people who haven't developed signs of being in puberty (they are prepubescent), whether or not they are "underage" or it's otherwise illegal to have sex with them. Thus it's perfectly possible he's a pedophile (or at least have "pedophilic desires") if he had sex with a even an 18 year old who looked very young.

Honestly isn't it about time people came up with a word that specifically referred to people who had illegal sex with underage minors (including 17 - 20 year olds)?

Careful. You'll take away people's pet, trigger word if you actually teach them wht the term paedophile actually means.

I suspect, however, that those that need to learn this won't hear you through the rightious indignation.
