Pre-TAM Dare-Devils: How About Some Insane Rides Before Dealing with Rationality?

For the past few years, I have been organizing trips to various attractions that involve Not Fearing Heights: Tandem Skydiving (from an actual airplane), Indoor Skydiving (in a vertical wind tunnel), and the Stratosphere's SkyJump.

This year, I would like to continue the tradition. I could relive any of the above options. Though, I would prefer something new. Unfortunately, the best options are not quite ready, yet.

Zip Lines
The Voodoo ZipLine, on top of the Rio hotel (the same place Penn & Teller perform), is not quite open to the public, yet. But, if it is ready in time for TAM, this would be my first choice of stunts to go on. The price is expected to be between $25 to $37 a person, depending on the time of day.

The Freemont Street area is also in the midst of opening the Slotzilla Zip Line and Zoom Line (whatever that is). I think the first one is already open. Not sure about the status of the later. It looks tamer than the Voodoo version. But, if Voodoo is not open, this would make a viable substitute. The prices are listed as: $20 for the zip line; $30 for the zoom line; or $40 for both.

The Bootleg Canyon Zip Line looks the best one. But, it is also the most expensive at $160 a person. It might also take longer to do, so it would interfere with other activities. (If we do this on Thursday, we might miss more workshops with this option, than the others.)
And, I just did the San Diego Safari Park Zip Line in the summer. So, I'm good for the long-form of the sport, for now.

Insanity: The Ride
Swings you over the top of the Stratosphere tower! We almost did this last year, after the SkyJump, but it was closed due to high winds. If the ride is open when we want it, perhaps we can do it this year!! And, while we are up there, we can also go on some of the other rides, but I already tried all of those others, myself. Prices: $18 Tower Admission required before ride tickets. Each ride (including Insanity) is $15 in addition to that. So Insanity, alone, will cost $33 total.

Roller Coasters
There are still a couple of these around the Las Vegas area. But, I might have done all of them already. If most of you prefer, you can pick one or two you like, and we'll roll around on those, instead. (I think the NYC one might have been refurbished since I last did it.)

So, who is up for any of these things?!

At one point I heard that the Voodoo line was going to be rigged so that you could ride it Superman style.

Maybe yes, maybe no

I volunteered to help as much as possible, since we're all-volunteer again of this year, so I do not know about how my timing will work out. If you're going to the other end of town, I would be glad to hitch a ride just to go hang out for a bit, even if I choose not to ride. See my private message to you about the possiblity of rooming together again this year.

From what I understand, all these rides will be closed during TAM.
Don't worry. I'm sure we'll find something dangerous to do.

I'm not sure about that. But, it can be ridden in pairs, apparently.

I also volunteered. So, final scheduling of these things may have to wait until The Spreadsheet is unleashed upon us.

Whoops, I referred to the wrong one. It's Slotzilla that I heard offers Superman-style, and some quick googling reveals this is in fact on the menu.

Ah, yes, that does seem to be the case!

Slotzilla will have two levels of zipline-like rides. It appears as though the upper level is Superman-style, and the lower is more conventional. Interesting.

I'd be up for the insanity ride. I've done too many ziplines for that to interest me any more.

I'm also hoping to go to digthisvegas.com. The excavator holds a certain charm for me that I'd rather not psychoanalyze.

I might be up for a zip line. I would love to do the indoor sky diving, though, if you decide to do it again.
Indoor skydiving is something I would like to do again, sometime, so that I could learn to flip around in the air.

But, for now, trying out newer activities is taking precedent for me.

I recently met someone who went there as part of a corporate outing. Looks like it might be more interesting than I anticipated. Perhaps I'll put that on the roster of possibilities.

I think I will draw up the first chart, soon.

Be sure that your chart makes it clear that I will not be attending. Sometimes I think people just sign up for these things with the hope that they'll get to meet me.

No, that doesn't happen. Although I think with the clarification that you definitely won't be there more people will choose to sign up.

Here is the table so far. I decided to try something different. Instead of listing all the activities in columns in the top, I think we can place our favorite first choice in the first column, then mark other activities we would like to do, or to avoid, in other coulumns.

Eventually, I will transform the table into an actual, official list of excursion attendees.

[table=head]Forum Name|Real Name (optional)|First Choice|2nd Choice|Others?|Do NOT Want|Preferred Time|Notes
Kochanski | Natalie | Any Zip Lines | Indoor Skydiving | | |? |
The Central Scrutinizer | Pepé Le Pew | World Cup Soccer | | | | Never!|Will not be attending
spruce22 | | Any Excursion? | | | | ?|
Wowbagger | Mitch Lampert | Voodoo Zip Line | Slotzilla Zip Lines | Insanity The Ride, etc. | Anything Boring | Thurs. Morn? | I might be leading this thing.
ZapMePlease | | Insanity The Ride | Dig This | | Zip Lines | ? | Only if Scrut is attending[/table]

I'm not sure I understand. Are we supposed to quote this in a reply and edit it to our preferences? Or tell you our preferences and you edit the original post?

You can quote the post (Don't forget to remove the QUOTE tags!), and edit your preferences, if you'd like.

However, for those who are inept at editing tables on this forum, I could do it for you, instead.
