Powell Scolds Over-Zealous Aide
NBC's Tim Russert was interviewing Mr. Powell for the show Meet the Press, when the Secretary abruptly disappears from view and the camera pans away to show palm trees and water, the backdrop for the interview.

Mr. Powell is heard off camera scolding his aide and saying he would answer the final question. The camera then returns to Mr. Powell.
I saw this broadcast this morning. I couldn't believe someone would have the nerve to just shove the camera out of the way like that. The Bush administration has been taking some major blows recently — the last thing it needs is some more bad press.

Kudos to Powell for correcting the situation immediately, and apologizing again later. He's a class act. Too bad he works for a moron.

I caught this today, and I must say, I LOVE IT when crazy stuff happens on live TV.

When Tim Russert says to Powell, "I think that was one of your staff, and that's inappropriate," that's getting nice and pushy. Hooray for uppity journalists!

"SECRETARY POWELL: I'm very concerned. When I made that presentation in February 2003, it was based on the best information that the Central Intelligence Agency made available to me. We studied it carefully. We looked at the sourcing and the case of the mobile trucks and trains. There was multiple sourcing for that. Unfortunately, that multiple sourcing over time has turned out to be not accurate, and so I'm deeply disappointed.

But I'm also comfortable that at the time that I made the presentation it reflected the collective judgment, the sound judgment, of the intelligence community, but it turned out that the sourcing was inaccurate and wrong and, in some cases, deliberately misleading. And for that I'm disappointed, and I regret it. "

Guy is a straight shooter. If he were to run for President, I'd seriously consider voting for him.

(Emphasis mine.)
Odd mix of tense. Was, not was...

They agreed to a 10 minute interview. The network was at 13 minutes, and wanted to push it even further.

Besides breaking their word, which is rude and unprofessional, the network is owed nothing. Being in the midst of a multi-theater war, Powell owes full attention to the many thousands of warriors with their lives on the line.

All of that is beside the point. No matter what he did - a 10 minute interview or a 10 hour interview - none of you childish left-wing loser freaks would be happy with it. Your game is very well understood at this point in history, and nobody expects you to ever shut-up about anything, change your ways in any manner, or grow up in the least.

Didn't see that one..was flipping thorugh the channels this morning, and saw some high ranking member of the Armed Services Comittee going on about how heads must roll at the top.
The interviewer asked him why the responsibiity wouldn't lie with the leadership of the committee with oversight over the Pentagon...never saw such tap dancing in my life..the interviewer had to restate the question at least 4 times, and never did get a straight answer.

Umm, did you read the preceding posts at all? The comments about Powell are all positive. Zakur said, "He's a class act", Brian said, "Guy is a straight shooter. If he were to run for President, I'd seriously consider voting for him."

So what is it about this that you dislike? Criticism for an aide who overstepped his bounds? Mr Powell clearly thought he was wrong, he can apparently be heard of camera chastising the aide, so these guys are agreeing with one of your heroes!

I can understand you disagreeing with liberals, but even when they are agreeing with and praising a senior republican? That's taking knee jerk reactionism to a whole new level!

This requires more investigation. Until further notice, I'll ask that we all reserve judgement, and don't speak ill of any bands 'till we figure this out.

Even better- let's just forget the whole thing.

Did I say bands? Sorry, it's a typo; of course I meant liberals.

Usually, politicians and people in power are desperate to get their side of the story out. Powell knew exactly beforehand what the interview would be about, and he was not sweating, wanting to get out of it.

I use my psychic powers to predict that there will be a Powell aide looking for a new job tomorrow....

Go listen to REO Speedwagon....

Powell is a tool.

Bush was elected on the "I've got Powell" platform, and then gave Powell practically no voice in policy decision-making.

Powell put his integrity on the line at the U.N., and now it's all used up. The longer he hangs on with this administration, the more craven he is.

"Tool"? Say the word, you racist- he's UNCLE TOM, to you, and no black man or woman could ever serve conservatives with a will of their own.

What on earth are you now blabbering about??

Take a look at the whole thread, unAmerican. Do you see a single post that mentioned anything about Powell's race? In a way that is seldom seen, Powell was discussed solely for his actions, and in a very positive light. There was only one racially derogatory post in this whole thread, and that was yours.

I trust that others here will not follow you into the only arena where you seem to be comfortable: The gutter.

Apparently, American has severe problems with women, homosexuals and blacks. I wonder what else? Jews? Handicapped people? Old people? Young people? People in general?

Why don't you like Powell, because he's a black?!

I had seen Powell many times on TV, and I didn't notice that he was black, until someone pointed it out. Then, I forgot about it. Who gives a ◊◊◊◊?

Cardiologists as well, apparently.

It's interesting in terms of the constituency of the political sphere; however I have a sneaking suspicion that this is not the reason that Powell's ethnicity was raised in this thread.

American, I know that this post is unnecessary, since many sensible people have already berated you. But, what in the hell are you talking about? Are you having another Speedwagon moment?

Whoa there big fella. Now what American said may be stupid, offensive and completely off-topic, but we should all keep in mind that it isn't as bad as what Saddam did!
