Pluto's gone. But not forgotten!

Can a planet's gravity influence life, day-to-day?

  • Yes, 100%, I believe that gravity tags on my life.

  • Maybe. Gravity holds the Universe together, so why not?

I've noticed that since the "ex-" planet Pluto has been down graded, Mystic Meg (UK newspapers) has since stopped using it to refer to, when giving "a reading"!

Does she think it's gone off it's orbit and thereby doesn't influence world events any further?

Nice to know I don't have to worry any more about the "dark influence of Pluto" in my life!

What do you think?:uk:

Interesting poll question. I think that my life is strongly influenced by the gravity of one planet- the Earth. I'm sure the tides have some indirect affect on my life as well (setting ferry schedules, possibly), so the Sun and Moon's gavity do to.

It is comforting to know that evil influences on our lives can be avoided by a crucial change in nomenclature.

There was a similar astrological scrambling to include Sedna, when that was discovered to be the 'tenth planet', a title it held for a very short time. (If officially, at all)

Ceres certainly has an effect on people.

The beer, I mean, not the dwarf planet.

If gravity lets go we would all go flying. So yes, it has a massive (weighty?) influence.

Well *this* planet's gravity definitely has an influence on my day-to-day life.

Most definitely. This morning, I literally saw Earth's gravity when standing on the bathroom scales. I need to move closer towards the equator to fix this.

I answered no in the spirit I assume the question was meant (astrology).

Of course, gravity of celestial bodies very much does effect my daily life, since I rather routinely fail to be flung off the surface of the earth.

I believe it can, but chooses not to. Pluto is a very well adjusted planet.

"Influence" is too broad a term. I could easily say that I am influenced by gravity in that I am not flung out into deep space. If this poll is more specifically asking if gravity somehow alters my fortunes, then the answer is no. Gravity has no more to deal with "luck" than astrology does. And it doesn't.

The reason that astrologers aren't making accurate predictions is that they are failing to take into account all the gravitational fields that tug on us. Obviously the only true gravitational prediction methods must consider, in the proper proportions, the gravitational influences of all objects, not just planets but the distant stars, dark matter, and of course nearby small objects. When we invent computers sophisticated enough to calculate all those variables, we will get better astrological predictions. But I suspect we might have to go further than that to render them flawless, and include in our astrological calculations electromagnetism, the weak and strong nuclear forces, and the positions and velocities of all particles.

Gravity affects me every step I take, every time I push a key on the keyboard and pick the finger back up, and so on.

So, what did you really mean to ask?

It's pretty obvious that Pluto has, for years, stuffed up astrological predictions due to science including is as one of the planets. So Pluto's gravitational influence was taken into account when, since it wasn't really a planet, it should have been ignored.

So science is to blame for astrology's shortcomings. Who would place their faith in science after this failure?
