Poor Rick Perry. He's the real conservative -- the one who was truly called by God almighty, unlike those other posers.

Rick's wife Anita Perry said:
We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative – well, there are some true conservatives. And they’re there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose. link

Nobody likes a whiner, not even a Jesus whiner. So will Rick pull it back a little? Nope.

Rick Perry said:
I think she’s right on both cases. My understanding is she said, I’m the most conservative candidate in the race and he’s a Christian.

How the quote should really look:

"I think she’s right on both cases. My understanding is she said, I’m the most conservative candidate in the race and he’s a Christian," Perry stated, thinking "and not a damend Mormon, either, oops, better not say that that out loud."

If people really think that an omnipotent deity is guiding them along a path to power, wouldn't they expect it to go a lot more smoothly? Election's a year off and there's no clear candidate for the nomination yet. Is God just building suspense, or does even He find it tough going, hacking through the inner circles of the Republican Party?

I have to wonder what office these folks think they are running for. I say to all candidates for public office: If you want to talk about religion, FINE, quit your job in government and become a pastor.

Otherwise, keep your damn religion to yourself.

Perry just announced his big plan to kick-start the economy. Massive investment in the oil and gas industry. (Gee, for a guy from Texas....)
Of course, most analysts say that though there's a fair bit of gas stuck in oil shales and such around the country, it might provide fuel for 50 years or so and who knows to what effect...
As for oil itself, again analysts indicate that if we pulled every drop from the ground in the US, even the nasty, hard-to-refine goo, it wouldn't make up but about 10% of what we need.

Whereas.... Again most of the pundits I listen to (Like the guys who show up on NPR's Science Friday) indicate that a similar whole-hog investment in alternatives would result in an improved "grid", less pollution by many factors, a huge boost to the economy, energy independence.... Yadda, yadda.
Jeremy Riffkin recently was on the radio-show circuit speaking of the "third industrial revolution" that could take place with investment in renewables and a "smart grid".

Moses in our midst:
Anita Perry said:
He felt like he needed to see that burning bush. I said he may not see that burning bush but other people are seeing it for you.

Who will be the Issac to Perry's Abraham?
Those of us in the blue states, carried to the mountain for the red states to gut and immolate?

Well that's what you get for listening to those damn libruhls on NPR.

Seriously though, Texas should be a decent place for Alt. fuels as well. Solar, Wind and even possibly wave (not sure about about that one, the gulf doesn't have the kind of surface waves that you see on the oceans) should be as viable in texas as anywhere else.

Considering the drought and fire issues in Texas this year, maybe his entire candidacy is one giant misunderstanding.

Bingo.

If people really think that an omnipotent deity is guiding them along a path to power, wouldn't they expect it to go a lot more smoothly?
Think Job.

Hilarious!

But then again, maybe God saw how dense Perry is, so He burned a whole bunch of bushes to get the message through. Being the deity is surely more complex than we realize.

More like 120%, and for hundreds of years. Get your facts halfway right please.

Well...

The EIA estimates the recoverable oil at 24 billion barrels. The United States currently uses about 20 million barrels a day or about 7 billion barrels a year; thus, the shale oil can only provide for 3.42 years of current consumption. Likewise, the the EIA estimates the recoverable natural gas at 750 trillion cubic feet. The United States currently uses about 90 billion cubic feet a day or about 33 trillion cubic feet a year; thus the shale gas can only provide for 22.72 years of current consumption.

Do you have a source with different numbers?

P.S. "I’m the most conservative candidate in the race and he’s a Christian." That's a badly constructed sentence. Makes me think his wife is running.
