"Magician Penn Jillette" was the featured guest on "The Colbert Report" for November 1. Comedy Central will air this show one more time this evening (I believe), in case you missed it. Otherwise, Penn's segment might be available at the Comedy Central web site.

Of interest are the parts of the interview that were "bleeped out" (actually there was no "bleep"; the sound was just turned off), especially in light of what was allowed to air unimpeded. If you can read lips, you'll know what Penn said; and even if you can't read lips, you can figure it out from the context. (For those of you who are squeamish, the "censored" material contained no dirty words at all!)

At one point, Penn and Colbert began throwing things at the audience (if you see the interview, you'll understand why), and the piece really went into the crapper from there.

just tell us in spoiler form the controversial stuff that happened please. someone.

roughly

Penn was saying...
"easter bunny isn't real, God isn't real, Santa isn't real..." and they were Bleeping Easter Bunny, God, SAnta...

I think the concept was funny, but the execution wasn't. In the end, it looked silly and forced. It seemed like Penn didn't like playing the "Colbert is a Limbaugh conservative" game.

It seemed to me like Penn was doing his normal Penn stuff, and Colbert wasn't playing along very well. Overall, Colbert seemed to be having an "off" night; i.e., the comments about the troop deaths seemed awkward.

I'll have to check it out. It will be on tonight at 8:30 EST

Penn also said something like ...
... The tooth fairy is your mother and father ...
... but this too was bleeped out.

But Penn's remark ...
... that there is no God ...
... was not bleeped out. And the selective "censorship" is part of the humor of the show.
