Sally Headding, an American psychic, gets involved in a New Zealand missing persons case. The New Zealand Herald reports:

Friends ask psychic to find Carmen ‎

Friends of Auckland woman Carmen Thomas have contacted psychics to help in the hunt for her but her family say they want to leave it in the hands of the police.

It is nearly six weeks since the 32-year-old mother of one disappeared.
...
A friend, Debbie Beech, said on a Facebook page set up to help find Ms Thomas that she had contacted American psychic Sally Headding, who has assisted law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Ms Headding has appeared on television shows and has written a book, Seeing The Other Side.

"She is willing to talk to us, at no charge," said Ms Beech. "But, for her own safety, she will only deal with the leading investigator."

She added that she appreciated that some people were sceptical about the use of psychics.

Other friends suggested police employ the services of local psychics Kelvin Cruickshank, Sue Nicholson or Deb Webber, who appear on TV2's Sensing Murder.

But an aunt, Carol Louise Lavagna - sister of Ms Thomas's mother - said: "The family do not wish to employ the services of a psychic and yes, there are a lot of people on here that don't know Carmen and just want to help and we are grateful for that - but please just leave it in the hands of the police. They are doing their very best and are keeping [her mother] Teresa up to date with everything."

Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said police were not in contact with any psychics.
...
Ms Hegarty said staff were still going through hundreds of hours of CCTV footage from Auckland and Hamilton businesses.

I searched for more information about Sally Headding and found her website where she claims:

http://www.drsallyheadding.com said:
Dr. Sally Headding has more than 30 years of experience as a forensic psychic. She also holds a combined doctorate in parapsychology and psychology, magna cum laude. ...

For personal reasons, Dr. Headding has chosen to remain out of the public eye for most of her career. She is now coming forward to shatter popular myths about the nature of psychics in her book, “Seeing The Other Side” ...

Interesting. She doesn't say where this doctorate is from despite mentioning loose connections to universities further down in her biography. Nor does she mention any undergraduate degrees or undergraduate university. A dissertation search shows up no record of any graduate work or scholarly publications under that name.

Anyone have any information about her?

Edit to add:

Found her Yelp.com profile, which she listed as Dr Sally "psychicdoctor" H., says: "Location: Concord, CA; My Hometown: Clayton; My Blog Or Website: Dr Sally http://Headding.com ." Plus, this blog examines her claims on "Psychic Investigators" and concludes, " 'Dr' Sally Headding. Result: the psychic did not solve the crime or assist the police. The crime was solved through normal police procedures."

I wonder if the family know of the forums Kelly, hopefully theyve come across her on the net, if not, the friends need to!

What would she do with a million dollars silly. It would be in American Dollars...what good it that?

In late September/early October 2010, the police received a tip from an unnamed source and found Carmen Thomas' dismembered body then made an arrest. It appears that Sally Headding provided no useful information about the case nearly two months ago. Police have not released how Thomas was killed.

It has been another long day for police investigating the murder of Carmen Thomas, but one which has brought a significant milestone.
...
Police had worked overnight and through the day to excavate the site, after confirming yesterday they had found what they believed to be her dismembered body, buried in a concrete container.
...
The grisly find brings to an end the three-month search for the 32-year-old mother, last seen alive on June 27.

Police spent two days mapping the area after getting a tip-off earlier this week, and found the remains late yesterday.

Police still won’t say who or what tipped them off to look there.

Carmen cops' horror discovery
Sunday Star Times/stuff.co.nz

Police have confirmed that whoever killed Auckland escort Carmen Thomas dismembered her body and hid it in plastic containers they buried in the Waitakere Ranges.

Officers are still searching bush near the burial site for the weapon used.

"We always believed Carmen had been dismembered," Detective Inspector Mark Benefield said. "Our site examination confirms that."

Thomas's remains were removed from an area near the Incline Track about 4pm yesterday and taken away for a post-mortem examination that police think may take several days.

Police have been in the area since a tip-off from the public and Benefield said they would remain there for the "foreseeable future".

Tuesday Sep 28, 2010

Forensic experts have left the homes of two men linked to the Carmen Thomas murder inquiry.

The police tape was lifted at the Remuera home of structural engineer Brad Callaghan at the weekend, days after he was charged with murdering the mother of his son Jack, 5.
...
Mr Benefield did not rule out further arrests, but refused to comment on potential people of interest.

Callaghan is in custody and due to reappear in the Auckland District Court on October 12.
...
Mr Benefield said Callaghan was the only person in custody in relation to the "disappearance, death and disposal" of 32-year-old Ms Thomas.

Mourners told of 'lioness' Carmen‎

Below is the most recent article. According to it, she was killed on June 29, 2010 and the family praised the police work, which solved the crime.

Headding was not praised, thanked or even mentioned. Nor did Headding publicly provide information that helped solve the crime even though Carmen Thomas had been killed two months before.

About 3 months after her brutal death Carmen Thomas's favourite singer performed in her memory in a moving farewell.

The life of the dedicated mother, loyal friend and loving daughter was celebrated and mourned at the funeral service in Auckland yesterday.
...
The 32-year-old was killed on June 29. Police found her dismembered body set in concrete in plastic containers buried in the Waitakere Ranges this month.

Her former partner, Brad Callaghan, is in custody charged with murder.

The congregation heard stories of a "dancing queen" who loved to party, of her mischievous sense of humour and the love she had for 5-year-old Jack, her only child.
...
He praised investigators for making an arrest and bringing Carmen back to her family.

"That's why we have a police force, to ensure we all have a modicum of peace in our lives, and what a remarkable job the police have done under the leadership of [inquiry head Detective] Inspector Mark Benefield.

"Sir, you and your team have put a passionate and caring face on the otherwise sometimes brittle image of enforcement. We thank you and honour you today for the often thankless job you do in our community."

Ms Thomas had suffered the ultimate act of another person's selfishness when she was only seeking to have her deep needs met.
...
Outside, he stood and watched as people said their final goodbyes and the coffin was placed in the hearse.

Clearly, she got her doctorate from a place where the "magna cum laude" option is only an extra fifty bucks.
