Palin says the spill strengthens the case to drill more.

The right thing to do would be to stop allowing the media to insert antics of completely irrelevant idiots like this into your mind - and even make you create threads about them.
 
Palin is hardly irrelevant. She's a major political mover in the GOP and has quite the following. This, also, isn't just about Palin. The GOP has been trying to downplay their call for off-shore drilling in the last few years.

No, but she's doing a pretty good job influencing a large portion of people who vote. She may be irrelevant to you, but that's just because you have your bllinders on. As much of an idiot Palin is, she is a highly influential person.

But she won't ever make a decision that is relevant to your life. First of all, she doesn't make any of her own decisions. Other people tell her what to do and say - evidenced by the few times she was out on her own and failed miserably, like not being able to name a single newspaper.

And if you'd like to put me on ignore, go right ahead. But then, unlike Sarah Palin, I would be influencing a decision that is relevant to your life, huh.

Actually, her influence lies in the populism currently in fashion, and while her influence may be indirect it most certainly is influential in relevant ways to our lives. Her insipid "death panels" comment resulted in an otherwise beneficial aspect of the healthcare bill being removed over a complete and utter lie. Is something like that relevant now? Well, once all the provisions of the bill that passed take effect it will have certainly affected those for whom the provision would have covered for end-of-life family counseling. Not a big deal if you're someone for whom all of these things are taken into account already, but for far too many people end-of-life matters are not in order and having that available would be a big deal.

Anyway, Palin's claim rests on the premise that, if only oil companies were allowed to drill in places like ANWR, they would not be drilling offshore or in deep water.

Is it even necessary to refute such a stupid premise?

Besides, Palin is very much on the record as being in favor of specifically offshore drilling, as well as drilling in ANWR.

Also warming means that ANWR is going to be soft soil all year round and nearly is already... This means that you have to build displacement roads (floating in the soft soil) to move any heavy equipment.

Only to idiots who think the US has anywhere close to enough oil to make a difference we see at the pump.
 
ANWR has lots of "engeneering challenges", but none that can't be overcome. I see no reason to do so right now though.

Personally, though I work the Gulf of Mexico, I'd be very happy to pay the Saudis a little more and save our own oil for when we desperately need it. Yeah, it would hurt our economy, but in the long run, we need to have something left in the tank. We need domestic petroleum to keep our oil payments from being outrageous, but the "Drill Baby Drill" people are short-sighted idiots. (IMO)
 
I'm just amazed we've gotten this far in the thread without a single "drill Palin" joke. Are you all asleep at the switch or something? :rolleyes:
