Dozens of Gaza residents turned out for a rally on Wednesday to demand an end to factional fighting, only to be caught in crossfire that wounded eight of them.

“Just as we used to protect you from the occupation by acting as human shields, we have come to protect you from yourselves,” one protester shouted at gunmen, referring to instances when Palestinian civilians positioned themselves between militants and Israeli forces.
Someone needs to explain to them that being a human shield only works when you're defending against people who care about whether they shoot you or not.

You are thinking sort term. Long term the question becomes can you make enough people care?

Mmmmmaybe it isn't about Israel or the West or anything. Maybe it's just about killing each other for power while using "Isn't Israel evil?" as a distracting rallying cry for the ignorant locals.

Nah, that would be a simple, parsiminous explanation with 100% accuracy of predictive power.

That's been my theory all along, not only as regards the Middle East, but also about the Northern Ireland fighting too, when it was going hot and heavy. They're all just a bunch of sociopaths who like killing people and have found out that if they say it's about religion and talk fast enough they can convince some other fools that they're fighting for a "cause."

That is personalizing the issue, and is clearly prohibited by your JREF user agreement.

Meanwhile, back to the OP ----
Hamas revealed to reporters covering the current situation in Gaza that the Israeli military had telephoned the home of Ahmed Jaabari, head of Hamas' military wing, and warned his family the house would be hit. People gathered around the building to discourage an IAF attack.

Wow. It's not often you see such blatant admission that Palestinians purposefully put civilians in harms way.

Bingo. My sentiments exactly. These gunmen ALSO believe in the right to bear (and in this case, use) arms.

Oh, sorry. Wrong subject - must stick to the OP. Which is about armed citizens of a gun-crazy country attacking unarmed citizens of that same country. And thus being labelled insane sociopaths by outsiders.

Yeah...

Do they?

I mean, it's obvious they support their own personal "right" to bear and use arms, but do they support that right as a general principle for all Palestinians? Or just for the members of the faction they happen to be a part of?

well Jeepers web, you had better call the authorities.

anyway....back to the thread. Anyone ever noticed how bad palestinians smell?

nope...not a shred.

Not even anecdotal evidence? Have you ever met a Palestinian that smelled bad?

I personally have met numerous Palestinians, but I have never met one that smelled bad. I suspect that's typical of Palestinians and that they probably don't smell any worse than any other group of people.

Nope its not based on any logical, rational or evidence based decision making process. Its based on my bigoted opinions of a generalised "palestinian" that I need to keep my belief system on its feet.

I need to believe they smell bad, I need to believe that they are inferior to my people....I need to believe that they are less than human. Its just the way I am.

I think I may start a weekly thread so that all my friends can join in....

So it's unrelated to the evidence based opinions that Palestinian factions are willing to shoot Palestinian civilians when they get in the way and that many Palestinian civilians purposefully place themselves in harms way to become human shields for the militants?

Then you don't seem to have a place in this thread.

If someone were to start a weekly (or more often) thread demonizing a people and to keep up this behavior for years on end, would you agree that would be a bad thing?

Haven't you noticed? ALL Palestinians are given a gun as a first birthday present. They don't have umbrella stands in the houses, they have gun-racks. And a Palestinian boy does not become a man until he has shot his first unarmed victim for no reason.

Think I'm joking...?

Nobody is disputing that there are lots of guns among Palestinians, the issue is if you believe the principle of gun ownership as a right is important to them.

It's one thing if both you and your rival are armed, it's another thing entirely if both you and your rival support each others right to be armed even knowing those arms could be used against you.

And a Palestinian boy does not become a man until he has shot his first unarmed victim for no reason.

Sarcasm can be an effective tool for pointing out the absurdity of someone's view, but only if it's actually a reasonable extrapolation of what the other person's view really is.

Splitting hairs. They all think it is their right by custom to own guns. Many of them consider it a rite of passage and a badge of adulthood to do so. So in many cases, you do indeed get to pry their guns only from their cold dead hands.

What sarcasm?
