Optical Illusions at TAM8

This year will be my first TAM.
Perhaps some of Jerry Andrus’ three dimensional optical illusions will be on display (For example the Brass Nuts Illusion, Paradox Box, etc)
They are truly mind boggling things to see in person, and it will be a highlight of my trip to see them.

I plan on bringing some other optical illusions I’ve created using the same concepts. If anyone attending TAM8 is interested in seeing visual illusions, please let me know since I’ll be bringing some along. I was also wondering if I’d be allowed to set up my own illusions in a place with good lighting?

Try searching for “Jerry Andrus illusions” in Google Video for some fascinating examples. I hope to see some at TAM8, along with his Trizonal Space Warper.

Did anyone here attend the Best Visual Illusion of the Year Contest in Naples, Florida?

Ooh, optical illusions. You should definitely contact the organizers and get yourself some space to display them.

Thank you for your responses. I sent a message to Jeff Wagg's email.
Did any of you get the chance to meet Jerry Andrus in the past?

I did. And, he was such a great guy! You could tell that, behind his quiet voice, was a man passionate about his work.

I regret that never got a good photo taken with him. I do have some frames of video with the two of us appearing together, very fleetingly. But, that's about it.

Yes, I spoke with him at every TAM. Well, I mostly listened and asked questions. He was truly fantastic and such a nice person.

We do a space reserved for Jerry each TAM. One of the conservators of Andrus's creations brought some items to TAM 6 and 7. They weren't his large illusions, but last year he brought a stack of copies of the Tri-Zonal Space Warper. Look at the items and speak with the conservator if you get the chance.

Jerry was one of the first people I saw at my first TAM (TAM3). He was set up outside the meeting room and my first thought was "Who in blazes is this old coot?" Then chatted with him a bit and looked at his display and realized he had to be someone pretty cool. Before that TAM was over I realized just how fantastic he was.

It's great to hear that Jerry was at every TAM in the past. Do you happen to know who the conservators are, or how I could contact them?

When I spoke to Jeff Wagg, he told me that they don't have Jerry's stuff this year. I'm very grateful to Jeff Wagg for reserving me a table at TAM8 so I can bring some of the large illusions I have.

I'll set up a collection of Jerry Andrus memorabilia and optical illusions, so we can all experience and hopefully enjoy some of the strange quirks of visual perception.

There's contact information for The Friends of Jerry Andrus at http://jerryandrus.org if you click on "friends".

That'll be great! Andrus used to attract the hotel staff -- it seemed that they'd all find a reason to walk by his setup, just to see his illusions.

Jerry Andrus was the first person I met at TAM4, my first TAM. I arrived late on Friday and he was still set up and showing his illusions. What a cool guy he was. Even though he had probably done it all day, he was still enthusiastic as he showed us everything on his table. That was my very first real TAM experience...

I'm looking forward to checking out your table, Rex.
