Ooops! Family Values Married Republican Caught Making Out With Another Man's Wife

I for one am amazed that for once a married Republican politician caught cheating on his wife was actually cheating heterosexually.

He's dumb enough to do in front of a recording video camera??? What a douche bag!

I hope the voters in his district send him to the curb in the next election.

As long as "Senator Vitter" is not preceded by "former-," then this guy is safe. Voters are not motivated by adherence to a morality to which they themselves only pay lip service. They've got tribal concerns to deal with, after all.

Because they are teh gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that, I am sure.

Isn't this his private matters? A lot of things can happen in life to make something like this happen, and it doesn't necessarily need to speak to his character. There's so many other hypocritical positions in the Republican party that I don't think this needs to be made into a big deal.

And let's don't forget TN Congressman Scott DesJarlais. Gotta love the defense his campaign used:
This is old news from the last election cycle that Tennesseans have already widely rejected. Desperate personal attacks do not solve our nation’s problems, yet it appears that there are those who choose to continue to engage in the same gutter politics that were characterized by national media as the nastiest in the nation just two years ago. Since the congressman’s opponents cannot attack him on his independent, conservative and pro-life record in Congress they have once again resorted to pure character assassination.

IOW, as long as DesJarlais is consistent in denying other folks the right to manage their own personal lives, his own is off-limits to discussion- it's "character assassination" to do to him what his "small government" platform insists on for everyone else.

And the Tennessee voters in his district re-elected him by a 56%-44% margin.

Once you run on a "family values" platform, your private matters are open to public scrutiny.

According to Republicans it does matter. Ask Hillary.

If I run for office on an anti-drug platform and then get caught shooting heroin, would that speak to my character?

It would, but in the world according to certain people sex is between consenting adults so anything and everything should be allowed including cheating on your wife with another man's wife.

Yeah, I find the argument stupid as well.

What certain people?

And do those same "certain people" run for public office saying just the opposite?

What certain people?

The certain people who think legalizing prostitution is a good idea (protip: It ain't), don't see the problem with adultery, and polygamy should be allowed. Apparently self-restraint is a dirty word in someone's vocabulary.

People, just because what you're doing isn't hurting yourselves or the person(s) you're sleeping with doesn't mean you aren't hurting someone else! So gentlemen keep it in your pants and ladies keep your legs clossed, if you aren't going act responsibly.

Maybe. I honestly don't know.

You know, I used to help run a couple of local swinger's clubs. We had some well-known Republicans who attended, but none of them were heavy on the "family values" stuff, just on the "low taxes" bandwagon.

I'm pretty sure TragicMonkey doesn't have any problem with homosexuality.

Your Leave It To Beaver code of sexual morality is due for an overhaul. Polygamy and prostitution (if legal) don't hurt anybody, and frankly you should mind your own business if they're not hurting anybody. Makes you sound like a Talib or televangelist.
