Old Science Museum gets Wicked New Alien Makeover

The old Science Museum in town is apparently getting a makeover. On one hand - yay, someone bought a big building (downtown has lost a lot of business over the last couple years)! On the other - I'm not sure I can handle such a large Thetan free zone in the middle of town.

Do you think the new occupants will help spur further economic development, or do you think the Scientologists just wanted a ringside seat for the 2008 GOP presidential convention?

I almost cried when I heard about it. So many great memories from childhood are now tainted.

And even worse for downtown, since they are a "religious organization" they won't be paying taxes on it. Though it wasn't clear if they will be opening a church there or if it is just an investment.

I used to love that place when I was a kid. We had many a field trip there back in the day.

I hate to say it, but the Church probably sees it as a great opportunity to move to some swankier digs (they're kinda getting the squeeze in downtown Minneapolis; you can always see a sad little CoSmonaut sitting in there dejectedly, nose pressed up against the glass next to a sign that says, "Free Personality Test").

They'll probably keep the musical stairs, too, but they'll probably play a MIDI of Darth Vader's theme now, or maybe Also Sprach Zarathrustra.
