Okay, who's an exercise geek?

I can't be the only one who does stuff outside of JREF and work. Example: I run 5 miles every couple days. Lift weights. Take Pilates. Look after my horse. I'd like to fit in swimming, but I frankly will not give up Video Game/Watch a Movie Friday. I will sit on my butt on Friday and neither hell nor high water will move me. Okay, maybe high water. ;)

Well, I don't know if I'd use the word 'geek', but I play beach volleyball 3 or 4 times a week depending on weather, run in the park on off days, surf when the Gulf of Mexico is feeling generous, and do any number of other activities. I can't do gym things any more. Aside from running, I've become averse to exercise, if I think of it as exercise. I just can't get motivated. But as long as the games are on, I'm cool. Bottom line, I exercise at least 5 days a week, today being an exception.

Hi Suezoled, good for you!

I try to do some stuff. I practice t'ai chi ch'uan every day, lift weights every other day, and walk or play tennis the other days.

Every once in a while I practice yoga.

I think the hardest thing is remembering to be conscious of nutrition too, and to get motivated somehow, and keep good mental health, and, most importantly, to not get sucked into the computer. :)

Geek

I am definitely geeky about weightlifting. I go to the gym with a looseleaf binder, and my workouts are planned out in detail, and recorded in detail, and then logged onto an Excel spreadsheet when I get home so I can see the little lines rise higher and higher.

"Keeping score" in such detail is what gets me motivated. I know exactly what I did last time, and so my goal is to get a little stronger each workout.

I am starting to look pretty strong for a geek, though!

Oh, and I also do the Stairmaster for 30 minutes four days a week, and I keep track of how many floors I climbed on a chart, so I can try to do more each time! I've geeked my way up to 120 floors so far!

I've been lifting weights for ~ 25 years. I now lift 2 times a week and do TKD 3 times, plus usually get 1 workout on the weekend doing yardwork.

Oh boy. It's the yardwork that would do me in. I mean, all those leaves to rake now-days. Never ending /unceasing battle against the forces of nature and all that fun stuff..... that's why I pay rent and let someone else clean the lawn for me. :D

I lift weights 4 times a week. I do indoor cycling 3 times a week. I usually get at least 2 more heavy duty cardio sessions in (a step class, a 5-10 km run), although this month I've been so busy and so tired that I haven't been doing as much cardio.

I want to add swimming and prepare for a super sprint triathlon in the spring, but I haven't gotten around to buying goggles. Or a swimsuit.

Weights are definitely the thing I obsess about the most. I spend an inordinate amount of time researching weightlifting and stuff related to weightlifting. I'm a total weights geek. And it's one of those things where there as many opinions about what is 'right' as there are people doing it, so there's an endless supply of information to wade through and try and interpret.

Well, even though I do karate classes once or twice a week, and I've got really trim and slim fingers from typeing on this forum all the time, here's what has happened to me arse...

I run 8 - 10 km every morning because I love it ! :)

I do calisthenics and lift dumbells after work because my son keeps challenging me to arm wrestles and, at 13, I can't let him win quite yet.

Much easier to just give him a controlled dose of botulism before each wrestling mach ;) :p

My exercise regime: Jumping to conclusions, running in circles, chasing false ideas, and I stay limber by reaching behind me and pulling knives out of my back.:D

See, now this is beyond my comprehension. If I run about 1/10 of a mile, my stomach becomes so churned up that the rest of the procedure is carried out under constant fear of puking. Perhaps I'm not breathing correctly.

It's probably your shoes.

here's what has happened to me arse...

Y'know Zep, my horse had a hind end like that in his good days. I always thought it it looked okay. In fact a lot of people thought his hind end looked great. ;)

Shouldnt they be flying the plane!??!

Are you kidding Jon? Pilots are superfluous and aren't really needed to fly a plane. Pilates is tough and only looks easy. ;)

As I have mentioned elsewhere in these forums, I discovered triathloning this summer. So basically I do a lot of running, swimming and biking. ;)

Of course with my fractured clavicle, right now I can only do time on the elliptical machine and stationary bike. :(

I got to the gym a few times a week and I´m starting to get stronger, but havn´t put on a lot of weight yet.
I don´t keep great track of it, just do it to breaking point, nor am I so insane as to run 8-10km everyday, that IS beyond comprehension =)
However, Paul, obvoiusly you can´t start out exercising much if you havn´t done it for ages. Start out small and work up, it´s worth it, really.

BTW, what has geek and exercise have to do with each other?

On a horse, yes. On me... Well, I am NOT going to post comparative photos, let's just take it as read that there is a more than passing resemblance, OK? :)

Actually, SOME people have accused me of being the complete horse's arse anyway...
