O'Donnell to Marry Girlfriend in Calif.
So, I play tuba in St. Louis's GLBT community band, Band Together. (Yes, they let staight people play too.) Last night at practice, one of our trumpets announced that he and his partner were flying to San Francisco this weekend to get married. Most of the band applauded and cheered, a few didn't.
I didn't ask, because it's none of my business, but I hope that he, like Rosy O'Donnell, realizes that this an act of civil disobedience, not a legal marriage. It worries me that many of these poor couples don't understand that there is only a very slim chance that these marriages will ever be upheld. I know that mayor is trying to make a statement about how wrong gay marriage bans would be and I agree with him, but he's using these people to that end. As long as they understand it, that's fine. If they don't, I think he's doing absolutely the wrong thing.
Maybe they are making that clear when couples pick up the license and that just isn't being reported. I dunno. I hope so.
"I find this proposed amendment very, very, very, very shocking. And immoral. And, you know, if civil disobedience is the way to go about change, then I think a lot of people will be going to San Francisco. And I hope they put more people on the steps to marry as many people as show up. And I hope everyone shows up."
