"Seventy-five-thousand people at an outdoor sports palace, well, that's something the Fuehrer would have done. And I think whoever is advising Senator Obama to do this is bringing up all kinds of very unfortunate images from the past."

Host Beck responded that he has "been saying that we're headed towards a Mussolini-style presidency forever. ... I mean it's crazy." Stein then declared, "It's a scary situation. ... But 75,000 people screaming in an outdoor arena, that's just too much. It's just -- it's scarily authoritarian." He continued: "It's like Juan Peron and Evita."
Remember folks, we know this is valid, because only liberal sites like MoveOn would compare political candidates to Hitler. Conservatives raise the tone of the debate, liberals lower it.

He ventured forth to bring light to the world

Do I detect a little more skepticism from the Eurotrashmedia than the US panty throwers?

Look, I understand that you recognize that Stein and Beck's comments are inexcusable. And I know that you feel the need to respond somehow in defense of your conservative media heroes.

However, your attempt to derail the thread is so blatant, so incredibly obvious, that it just reeks of desperation.

It might be a better bet to just let this one go.

Substantively, there's no real difference between delivering a speech at a football stadium or a basketball arena, so Stein's hyperbole is a bit absurd. The best explanation I have heard for the venue change is that the extra Obamaphiles let into the stadium (carefully vetted I bet) will drown out any negative reaction from the Clintonites.

ETA: And I don't blame him for not wanting that at his convention. McCain isn't letting Ron Paul speak for very similar reasons.

Huh? OMG... he's packing them in, must be a fascist.

Say anything.

Ah the Bill Clinton thing? Its going to be great entertainment. Maybe Richard Mellon Scaife can make newspapers tell lies about Barack Obama like he did to Bill Clinton? Oh and then there are those entertaining and funny right wingers like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O Reilly, Rupert Murdoch and Ann Coulter. People say Obama will be another Carter no no. He will be another Bill Clinton who republicans want to bring down.

I do think they raise an important point. The key element of a fascist is his desire to speak in venues that don't have roofs. History shows that a leader who believes in democracy would have a roof overhead, and Obama's desire to speak in a roofless stadium clearly demonstrates that he is unfit to govern.

That sounds a bit paranoid, although I suppose the risk of even a few PUMA people at the convention is something he has a deep incentive to minimize. But still, there are plenty of other reasons to want to have lots of "Obamaphiles" in the stadium. You get to present the image of "look how popular I am?" which is always a nice message to send in a democracy, and more idealistically you get to make a token gesture of "opening up the convention" which is both a worthwhile ideal to promote and one which looks good to promote.

And what lies were those? I'd be happy to debate with you such topics as Chinagate, Campaign Finance Gate, FileGate, Clintons many sexual assaults, and the odd circumstances surrounding the deaths of Ron Brown and Vince Foster. :D

This just in to our news desk: Ben Stein is an ass.

I am one of those who is critical of the messianic wing of Obama supporters, but Beck and Stein were so freaking out of line as to be astonishing.
There is a perception that the American people are in a more liberal mood then anytime since the 1980 election, and I thnk the Right wing talk show hosts are seeing the possibility of their ratings going down, and they are getting desperate.

The London Times article though was drop dead funny.
BTW, I think that, if elected, one of Obama's real problems about a year after he is elected will be the disillusionment factor, since I don;t think any politician could live up to the expectations that the Obamamaniacs (as opposed to the more rational Obama supporters )have for Obama.

What a baseless comparison. Maybe after Expelled Stein thought his words would go unnoticed since no one takes him seriously anymore? Or maybe ID did it?

I actually don't mind Beck too much, but when he goes on about his religious beliefs and GW denial, I feel like slamming my head through the wall.

In summary, this is just partisan BS. Their argument is completely illogical. An eloquent, and popular speaker should not automatically be compared simply for these traits.

Oh they'll deal somehow. Look how well the Bush supporter's claims worked out, and they're still rabidly foaming at the mouth about how great their Messiah was.

Obama can't fail that badly. I mean what's he going to do, destroy a major American city?

Their ratings are going down? Where'd you get that info from?

I've seen the newsprint and television media seems to be losing subcribers and ratings respectively but have'nt seen that about talk radio.
