Obama approval tops 50%

Can we start doing the "This is great news! For Mitt Romney!" thing yet?

It get increasingly difficult to look at Obama and conclude that he's made any huge mistakes. Of course he was majorly naive about bipartisanism, and there are people who think he ceded to much to the GOP, but he's actually positioned himself pretty well.

And he has such a beautiful smile. As cool and cerebral as he supposedly is, when that smile lights up his face I feel better about the country. No science to it, I just do. I like a brown-looking president as well. Nothing against white dudes, honest.

But my biggest GOP bellwether is Mom - and he's growing on her.

Politically, or policy-wise?

Well, both in a way, but I meant politically. He hasn't left a lot of room to be painted as a radical liberal, while the GOP has come to stand for negativity and intransigence. As to policies, I'm not sure what scope he's really had, but I don't think he's made any wildly radical policy decisions. I could be wrong but not a lot coming to mind.

No sex scandals, no huge Katrina type disasters, and not getting the US in any unwinnable wars should help.

I don't know why. I don't see any indication that such things actually HURT in the first place.

He Election is still over eight months away. He could peak early, which was part of Gingrich's problem in Iowa.

It's not so much that he might peak early, it's that the American Voter has the attention span of a hyperactive mongoose. What happens in the last month of the campaign will determine the election, not what has happened in the last four years.

One night I put up a Tick avatar, but was soon reminded of your iconic picture. Maybe I subconsciously knew about your avatar because I sorta envy you, which results in the occasional passive-aggressive swipe. I'm the Jennifer Jason Leigh character in Single White Female, except I wish I was a teacher-********** like you. So yeah, I pushed a puppy out a window and then carved a watermelon helmet. Cats are the best!!

I worry most about something screwing up the oh-so-fragile economic recovery. Right now it seems a lot of factors that could do so are entirely beyond Obama's influence at all (Greece, for example). If unemployment jumps back up, then all the "job-killing" rhetoric will have much more power.

OMG! A juvenile canine defenestrator? I thought I knew you, man.

Yep, that could easily happen. Plus, I'm totally expecting some sort of swift-boating-type campaign. That might not be as effective as it has been in the past due to the fact that Obama-haters have really never stopped making up **** about him since the day he was nominated, so voters may be a bit inured to it. But yes, the economy could take a dip at any time. There are a lot of things that could cause it, but it would certainly be blamed on Obama. Such is the nature of politics.

I expect a deluge of nasty attack adds in the weeks before election day. Along the lines of the 2010 ads that claimed that my Congressman had funded Viagra for convicted rapists.

Democrat Party supports free condoms for soldiers raping villages. Psych! Democrats don't support the troops!
