NEW YORK — New York's "Naked Cowboy" is looking for some new exposure as a presidential candidate. Robert Burck is familiar to any Times Square tourist as the man standing in the heart of the "Crossroads of the World," playing a guitar and wearing only tighty-whiteys, boots and a cowboy hat.

But he wore a suit and tie Wednesday as he announced his intention to run for president in 2012 as a member of the conservative Tea Party movement.

He proclaimed he was running "in defense of individual liberty" and criticized President Barack Obama for the direction of the country.

"America is rapidly transforming into a government-run enterprise," the tourist attraction said, adding that "American politicians are selling out America and its most cherished institution, that being capitalism."

The Tea Party has a nice way of bringing out...interesting characters. ;)

What do you think he will get for it? Is he gunna use ebay, or craigslist?

Naw, man. He's going to totally let them use capitalism as background economic theory in a commercial and, eventually, elevator economic theory.

What a sell-out.

I want to chime in as an ex-manhattanite...that dude is actually a decent guitar player. In fact, one night down on Bleeker, he sat in with us at the Bitter End. He can keep up with some great cats, even if he does it in his briefs.

Rock On!

Obama's a dirty Socialist and wants to destroy America.

I understand that part.

He is attacking capitalism, he is destroying capitalism, he is replacing capitalism, sure. But how does one "sell out" capitalism. Selling out, in general, is respecting capitalism.

He calls Capitalisms mom and tells her that Capitalism's been smoking pot. :boggled:

But on a serious note I imagine you'll get an answer to the effect of "selling out capitalism by ushering in socialism" or similar nonesense. Still wouldn't make sense in that context considering what "selling out" actually means.

Well if Ronald Reagan can become President, why can't a half-dressed, out-of-tune busker?;)

Wait. If someone who goes by the moniker 'The Naked Cowboy' is actually half-dressed, he should have a better understanding of the phrase 'selling-out' than he has just shown.

Sell it to the Chinese Communists. 明显-duh!
