Nuclear Plant Explodes -- (video)

just the cooling tower... cool but, the little dome on the right would be newsworthy ((like what would happen in Iran)).

:j2:

edit for dyslexia.

just the cooling tower...

What about the rest of the power plant? Is it also slated for demolition, or is a new cooling tower/design in the works?

Can a nuclear power plant be demolished and cleaned up?

I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything. I just don't know.

There was a very small nuclear power plant in place at Ft. Greely, Alaska, and was "demo-ed" and done away with before my arrival in 1975.

Is it truely "cleaned" up?

What about all those nuclear powered ships that are usually scuttled? (This one, the USS Oriskany, was conventionally powered).

If so, isn't that an energy debating point in favor of nuclear technology?

The "plant" itself consists of one or more reactor vessels of varying size (a large one being about 20 feet tall and just as wide) inside one or more containment buildings. These would be considered high-level waste. It also consists of inner-loop piping and coolent. These would be considered low level waste. Those are removed and the plant itself is demolished in the same manner and hauled to a dump. The high-level waste goes one place, the low level waste another.
