Norovirus and the Media

Is it me or is the media reporting outbreaks of norovirus with an unnecessary shrillness? Sure, I'd like to avoid infection. However, by the time the news breaks the infection is over, the place disinfected and people are no longer on the trots. What purpose does national news coverage serve?

Or am I just in a foul mood today?

Typical scaremongering by the media.

Seems life is so good lately that the media won't sell any news if they don't scare us about something. So they have to tell me in California about 5 murders in England. Or 7 folks in Ohio that died of CO poisoning. These things are just not newswothy to me. Same with food poisoning, 2,500 miles away.

So I don't watch any TV news. I read the paper, or lately, the net. At least I don't have to listen to the droll reports of petty local news from 1000 miles away, I can just skim past it. But now I see more video on the net, forcing me to watch commercials to get to the story. Back to the print media, I guess.
