the thought that palin could have this kind of influence is scary.

Top Republicans in Washington and in the national GOP establishment say the 2010 campaign highlighted an urgent task that they will begin in earnest as soon as the elections are over: Stop Sarah Palin.

Interviews with advisers to the main 2012 presidential contenders and with other veteran Republican operatives make clear they see themselves on a common, if uncoordinated, mission of halting the momentum and credibility Palin gained with conservative activists by plunging so aggressively into this year’s midterm campaigns. (See: Sarah Palin wreaking havoc on campaign trail)

There is rising expectation among GOP elites that Palin will probably run for president in 2012 and could win the Republican nomination, a prospect many of them regard as a disaster in waiting.

Many of these establishment figures argue in not-for-attribution comments that Palin’s nomination would ensure President Barack Obama’s reelection, as the deficiencies that marked her 2008 debut as a vice presidential nominee — an intensely polarizing political style and often halting and superficial answers when pressed on policy — have shown little sign of abating in the past two years. (See: Palin speaks to electability issue)

"There is a determined, focused establishment effort … to find a candidate we can coalesce around who can beat Sarah Palin," said one prominent and longtime Washington Republican. "We believe she could get the nomination, but Barack Obama would crush her."

Which means they have to get someone who really energizes moderate Republicans. Someone who could appeal to the further right portion of the party is likely to get beat as well. Basically, I don't think they should try to out Palin Palin in the primaries because it would hurt them in the main election. Not that they couldn't put someone up who is almost as far right as Palin but not a quitter who says stupid things, and have a shot at the Presidency. I just don't see the far right changing who they back.

They will go with Romney, i am guessing. Given the economic woes, who better to win over the low information voter then a self made millionaire.

I still don't think most Americans will vote for a Mormon, especially one who did his missionary work in the period before "black priesthood" was allowed.

why, most of them voted for someone they think is a Muslim...lol

Did I just say that?

I'm sure you hope a perfect RINO is nominated.

And I also think that the GOP establishment will continue to discover Palin is closer to stopping them than vice-versa.

Can't decide, can't decide....

Run Sarah run, you'll be so easy to beat.

But dang, what if that backfires?

Well to paraphrase from the Biggles story Spitfire Parade on the subject of whether to worry...

Either Palin will be selected to run for President or she won't. If she doesn't run then there's no need for you to worry.

If she does run then she'll be elected President or she won't. If she isn't elected then there's no need for you to worry.

If she does become President or she'll either be an effective president or she won't. If she is an effective president then there's no need for you to worry.

If she's an ineffective President or she'll either start a war with Iran to distract from home issues or she won't. If she doesn't start a war then there's no need for you to worry.

The Iran war will either trigger global nuclear apocalypse or it won't. If it doesn't then there's no need for you to worry.

If it does then you can't worry

Interestingly (or maybe not), there's already polling being done on various matchups against Obama. Sarah Palin polls the worst of the bunch.

Obama v. Romney
45% - 50%

Obama v. Huckabee
44% - 52%

Obama v. Palin
52% - 44%

Obama v. Gingrich
49% - 47%

I hope so. I want nothing more then Palin to win the REP nod.

If it backfires, I'll meet you in our new community in Europe.

Wow, that's pretty bad. You are not even and American, just a neighbor and you would want to move farther away if she got elected.

Although, I guess I can understand your concern. Her being Alaskan, she may want to make it part of the contiguous US, which would not bode well for Canada.

Frightening in many ways. How can Huckabee out-poll anyone serious - sheesh ? Palin might make a nice mayor, but Alaska has a smaller population than a lot of counties, she's a farm-team player.

Romney and Gingrich are both capable but they both have vast negatives. The left hates Gingrich or his past successes. Romney is a Mormon who made his money at a corporate take-over firm, thus he can be painted as a heartless fat-cat, religious oddity,

I think Paul Ryan may have a real chance.

Are these the same polls that said Obama would not get the nomination 2 years before the convention??? Obama is an unmitigated disaster. The Dems would be better dumping him and running Hillary

Well it was a bit, bit, of a joke, but you get the idea. Her extreme views, and lack of intellectual curiosity or gravitas has, i think, many in the international community concerned. If i thought she had a real shot of winning, i would not want her as the REP nominee, but as of now i do not think she has much of a chance. Of course things could change, but i have at this point enough faith in the common sense of the American public, as a whole.

As for obama polling poorly. We will see. We know what groups did not come out in november, and you can be guaranteed they will come out in 2012.
