So, I was listening to the radio earlier and one of the groups who were evacuating people from New Orleans was talking about the effort. Particularly interesting is that efforts came to a standstill yesterday as the violence was too bad.

Reminds me of the relief air support that had to stop because someone was firing at it.

Honestly, at this point I wish it had been a cat5 and hit the city directly. I'm not sure the people who remained (other than the sick, elderly, handicapped) are worth saving. How about we drop guns and pcp into the middle of the city, turn off the news cameras for a week, and let darwinism take its course.

Unfortunately, under that scenario, only the most vicious will survive. Even I'm not that cold-blooded.

Who said we would let them live?

There are people there who are at least partly innocent; certainly they defied the evac order, but they are not looting. Your modest proposal would get them killed off first, leaving the truly vicious to be dealt with by men in helmets and boots and carrying bigger weapons.

Pretty disgusting sentiment, corp.

Pretty disgusting as it came out of a feeling of disgust. A police station in NOLA was being shot at earlier today by assailants.

It also seems NOLA residents shot themselves in the foot during the evacuation.

Details from Nola.com

I have an easier time understanding why some people didn't evacuate reading that.

So that would justify abondoning the people who remain in the city, incidents like that?

Pardon me for venting unless you honestly believe I think that.

Well, as I noted in another thread, it's a good thing all those people firing all those weapons at rescue workers were such lousy shots. Otherwise, someone might have gotten hurt.

I personally wish you had been there, right in the middle of it all...Then maybe you could have given us all an opinion on the situation that is based on something other than offensive ignorance.

Yeah - that's your turf.
whats your attitude to a force five impacting the centre of the city...do you also wish that had happened? Is that suggestion offensive to you or are you more positive than that towards Corplinx wish? When you see the misery of these people do you wish it was worse? Unbelievable.

A spirited attempt at mind-reading, but it appears your psychic abilities are in desperate need of recalibration, at the very least...

The question of the day is :

How long until Hollywood makes the movie?

Who said we should let you live, corp? Unless you're volunteering to get dropped in along with the ammo, shut your hole.

I'm friends with some wonderful people who lost their home to this situation and can't contact family members who couldn't afford to evacuate. No matter how disgusted you are, can you try to act like an adult for their sake? Or at least wait until we actually have the bodies buried before you start these types of rants?

Stories of widespread violence may have been exagerated.

Here's an alternative look at life in NOLA right now, by some restaurant owners. One of them has been riding around on his bike.

The flooding isn't too bad in parts of the city, including the French Quarter. That's encouraging. Hopefully they will be able to at least restore part of the city, if not all of it.
