Netanyahu Spoke Before Congress Today

Watch what happens in minutes 7:00 to 8:30 of the video .... listen to it carefully!

I wonder if a president of Greece would get a standing ovation for telling the USA congress about how his ancient people were saved from the tyranny of King Minos and the terror of his Minotaur by the wiles of Princess Daedalus?

It is an amazing SHAME ON HUMANITY that fairy tales are taken as facts to be used in the 21st century in a speech to rally the "elected" leaders of the most scientifically advanced and powerful nation in the world to use its military might to bomb other nations.... and it receives a standing ovation.

Also listen to what he says in minutes 3:30 to 4:00.... this is TRULY a notion that many Christian Americans believe.... PROMISED LAND... I wonder what the Native Americans might say to that???

He'd be sacked pretty promptly as President of Greece by indignant citizens pointing out that
Daedalus is first mentioned by Homer as the creator of a wide dancing-ground for Ariadne. He also created the Labyrinth on Crete, in which the Minotaur (part man, part bull) was kept. In the story of the labyrinth as told by the Hellenes, the Athenian hero Theseus is challenged to kill the Minotaur, finding his way with the help of Ariadne's thread.
So it was Ariadne who saved Greeks from the Minotaur.
Ariadne (/æriˈædniː/; Greek: Ἀριάδνη; Latin: Ariadne), in Greek mythology, was the daughter of Minos, King of Crete, and his queen Pasiphaë, daughter of Helios. She is mostly associated with mazes and labyrinths, due to her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus.

It would be like an Israeli PM saying that Moses wore a coat of many colours and sold his birthright for a mess of pottage.

"I would like to think that these guys could pay with their lives, hanging from a noose in front of the U.S. Capitol building. Because what they are doing is they are putting their own interests above that of America. And to me, that is criminal...And guess what? Most of those members who are opting out of attending the speech are members of the Congressional Black Caucus."

I wonder if he realizes that a great many American Christians who want Israel to be the Holy Land are hoping that it gets utterly destroyed, for the sake of hastening the return of Jesus? They don't want Israel to live and prosper, they want it wiped out so their God can deliver ultimate judgment---which includes sending all the Jews to Hell for rejecting Jesus.

Not that Netanyahu would care about the fairy tale beliefs of idiots, but it would be nice if he kept it in mind before playing up to them.

He knows jolly well and he knows how to use it all the way to the bank.

Who cares what they want as long as they keep sending the dollars and weapons.... and the more he keeps posturing as a war monger and occasionally hitting on the head some Palestinians and the more images of mayhem they see the more they will drool at the mouth with thoughts of Jesus coming back soon to complete his duties as the bridegroom with them as the brides behind closed doors and the more money they would dole out as extra oil for the lamps (see Matthew 25:1-13).

Oops... I gave the wrong name to Ariadne.... forgot my Greek Mythology Classes from a century ago.... I meant Ariadne but mixed up the name.

It would be like an Israeli PM saying that Moses wore a coat of many colours and sold his birthright for a mess of pottage.

But come on... my mistake is not as bad as that... I just equivocated the name of the Princess who helped Theseus.... your example is a total jumbling of various stories and events.

A more apt equivalent to my mistake would be to call Esther Ruth while telling the story of the book of Esther.

Just because one gives the wrong name while telling the correct details of the myth does not mean the myth was mingled and jumbled up with other myths like in your example.

Yes you're right. But Daedalus was involved in the same myth, so it's maybe like saying Mordecai instead of Esther. That's no big deal, but I think the rabbis would still take a dim view of it. Rending garments, ashes on head, etc.

Here is a link to it:

I thought it was a good speech. I'll have to comment more when I have time, but I liked what he had to say overall.

I'm interested in what fellow ISFers thought of it.

Not much new in the speech. Obama's on the verge of negotiating a bad deal, which is undoubtedly true. It was weird that Obama grasped at the first offer by Iran to talk, just as the economic sanctions were starting to bite (and they were biting). And now, with the price of oil having plummeted by 50% since the start of talks, the deal seems to have gotten even worse for us. Obama is either the worst negotiator on the face of the planet, or he secretly sees some sort of benefit for Iran to become a regional hegemon.

The reaction to the very fact of the speech is what is fascinating. Obama is behaving like a spoiled brat, and he is forcing other Democrats to do likewise. I can certainly understand Obama's annoyance, but the rather immature ad hominem attacks on Netanyahu and the threats of retaliation seem beneath his office. It must really burn his ass that Netanyahu received a thunderous, rapturous reception that Obama has never come close to getting at a State of the Union address, even from his fellow Democrats.

That's pretty funny. Onion worthy.

There are some good articles about the Netanyahu speech in Slate Magazine:

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...ress_the_israeli_prime_minister_wants_an.html

Netanyahu’s Deadly Gambit

The Israeli prime minister pretended to criticize the specific deal that the United States and five other nations are currently negotiating with Iran, but it’s clear from his words that he opposes any deal that falls short of Iran’s total disarmament and regime change. He pretended merely to push for a “better deal,” but he actually was agitating for war.

Netanyahu Just Did Obama a Big Favor

Netanyahu had the chance Tuesday to offer a better plan, with the whole world watching. He failed miserably, and in so doing demonstrated conclusively that there isn’t one. To the extent that this buttresses the Obama administration’s case for a deal—and it certainly should—the American people should be grateful to him.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...te_he_intended_to_offend_president_obama.html

The Gross Hypocrisy of Benjamin Netanyahu

So let’s be clear: Netanyahu has come here to defy Obama. He has done so because confrontation is in his nature. And he’s politicizing it. You can dismiss all his protestations that the speech shouldn’t be taken as an assault on the authority of our head of state. Because that’s exactly how Netanyahu treats criticism of his own policies back home.

Well I guess we can stop hearing about all this talk of how we need to fight ISIS and instead hear from right wing outlets how we need to invade Iran?
