Catcher Doug Mirabelli was in California on Monday when he was traded back to the Red Sox. That trade triggered a cross country adventure, which included a police escort just so he could play in Monday’s game.
The state police escort left from Logan Airport and went down Storrow Drive. People pulled of the side of the road as officials transported newly reacquired Mirabelli to Fenway Park. The Red Sox did pay for the escort, which dropped off Mirabelli right in front of the park with only minutes to spare before the highly anticipated Boston, New York match up.

Now Im a bib redsox fan but this story angered me. A private company can rent a statie to do 100mph with his lights on, so an employee can get to work on time!?!??

I believe that police are 'rented' routinely for various important escorts, highway traffic observation during construction, special events, and even to lead truck convoys with wide-loads on the roads.

A baseball player like Mirabelli is considered a 'high-profile celebrity' and as such, falls into the category of VIP's that the police have an interest in assuring safe passage, and the State Troopers (off-duty) are happy to take on this extra paid work (not to mention, they probably got passes to see the game).

Dude. It's Boston. The guy needed to get to Fenway to catch a game for the SAWX! There would have been an uprising if it got out that the cops DIDN'T give him an escort.

If you're a Masshole like me (well, I'm a former Masshole anyway) you know that the rules are different for the Red Sox...and well they should be. :p

Yeah it's Boston and against the Yanks, I'm pretty sure all the cops involved were fans... I don't think that happens for a Royals/Devil Rays game.

Did you forget the joy of Act. Gov. Jane Swift? And I don't mean the joy of watching her cry repeatedly on the news.

Man... that was good...

But yeah, did you forget her?

Oh I remember her copter rides to work. But at least she was the gov. Not just an employee of a private company.
