Hello
Just had a pair of girls at the door with a survey; they were taken aback by a couple of my atheistic answers. I was taken aback by one girl bringing up Nostradamus in a obviously christian based survey.

I have agreed to continue a debate her. Can you suggest some good skeptical resources on Nostradamus prophecies?

BTW: Is she does call me back, this will be my first real skeptical discussion with someone. I will use it as a learning experience for me.

Regards
Sandra

Randi wrote a whole book on him--you can buy it on this site!

Really, the best defense against Nostradamus is to read him and possibly to read some old books of interpretations of the prophecies. I once saw a book that found that every one of the prophecies was fulfilled in World War II. They're too vague to mean anything.

I've got a copy, and it's really pretty good.

There's an extremely short article here.

A longer article here.

BTW, if the claim comes up that "Hister" means "Hitler" (see the latter article, above, quoting Randi's interpretation), "Hister" actually refers to a town/region near the mouth of the Danube, on the Black Sea, and that section of the river was known by that name (the Danube forms the north and west boundariues of the area). The town of Histria, in the province of Moesia Inferior, dates back to at least the early Roman Empire.

Nope.

I'd wish you good luck, but as a "good skeptic", you don't believe in that crap, right?

Give it up.

Just tell her to go away, or submit.

I second the recommendation for Randi's book. Excellently researched, it really puts the final nail on the coffin. Only the extremely deluded would still believe his "prophecies" had any meaning or relevance after reading that book.
