My ISP decided to change domain names the other night. Ever since then, Eudora has not been able to download email at either the old or the new address (the ISP currently has it set up so that mail sent to the old address is received at both old and new; the old will be phased out in a couple of weeks).

Two things happen when I try to download mail with Eudora: I keep getting asked for my password, and it keeps failing with an error message about not being able to connect securely to the domain.

However, Eudora can successfully send mail. Also, Mailwasher Pro has no trouble at all, and successfully shows each email being on the server with both old and new addresses. Finally, I can download email and attachments via my ISP's webmail site, but that's a very clumsy system.

Any suggestions? The Eudora message board seems pretty moribund, and I don't qualify for official Eudora technical assistance.

sending mail is done via SMTP so you've got that part configured ok.

mail is retrieved from mailboxes via POP3 or IMAP. Probably POP3. These are the setting you need to focus on. Make sure you've entered the name of the POP3 server correctly in Eudora.

It's been a long time since I used Eudora. Did you create a new account, or modify your existing account? The fact that it keeps asking for a password makes me think the ISP changed the authentication type on the account. Perhaps clear text passwords no longer work and you need to tell Eudora to try MD5 or challenge-response?

You need to check the Checking Mail | Save password checkbox.

You need to make sure the correct Incoming Mail | Authentication style radio button is pressed.
