• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Nearly every software has spyware these days!

I doubt the validity of the OP's statement, though to be fair, unless you've access to the source, there's no way of being sure what data might be being reported back to manufacturers.

There's certainly a lot of spyware around: I spend most of day my cleaning it off machines-but much of it is self-inflicted (not necessarily intentionally) by installing every little bit of trialware under the sun, not reading the small print (and missing the half-a-dozen other items which will be installed alongside whatever free utility you've downloaded), or looking for access to sports/movies from non-legit sources.

Unless you're an untrusting, curious techno-junkie who has various network trace software installed to see exactly what traffic leaves (or, more often, attempts to leave) your computer, and where it's headed. Plus correlations with the dedicated, hardened firewall on your internet connection.

But I admit, I'm a bit atypical.

On the plus side, I know exactly which websites my kids go to :D

Some software updates itself so often that I've become convinced that the only updates Java and Adobe are actually providing is giving you another chance to open yourself up to being violated by their freeloaderware. We don't even really know if the software has actually been updated; we just trust them that it is. I doubt they are really updating it that often. It's probably in their contract that they push the updates a certain number of times a week.

Ever wondered why that is the case?

As usual, take the facts and miss the point. As a software developer, I include what might be termed "spyware" in what I develop, but I have no interest other than the maintenance of licences other than my own.

Furthermore, it is trivially easy to bork any spyware if one were interested. Apparently, you are far more interested in moaning about it than doing something about it.
