National Prayer Day today.
I would not have noticed except the local paper mentioned it:
As the walls of
mistrust
hatred
and exclusiveness
are raised
loudspeakers and sermons
proclaiming separation
May the sound we hear loudest
are the hammers of science and reason
pounding at the foundations
of superstition and religion
Amen
I would not have noticed except the local paper mentioned it:
There will be ham and eggs on the National Day of Prayer breakfast table today in Flagstaff, followed by three other communitywide religious events over two days.
But the menu has a strictly fundamentalist Christian flavor, according to the group that is sponsoring the events: No Mormons, Seventh-day Adventists, Unitarians, Jews or Muslims have been invited to pray or speak.
Only the prayer breakfast is listed on a brochure as specifically Christian; attendees at the three other Prayer Day events wouldn't know from the brochure they are at a Christians-only gathering until they arrive.
