Mystery Science Loose Change 3000

This is a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing. I plan on pointing this out to people who try to tell me about Loose Change.

I wonder. He's not selling it, or otherwise making money off of it (I assume).

You don't need to sell or make money from copyrighted material in order to be in violation of copyright law. Just look at p2p networks. I think though, that since loose change just gives their video away, they would be hard pressed to prove that this video caused them financial damages (which IIRC is needed to press civil suit). I am not a lawyer, though, so I don't really know whether or not this video is legal, but I think it is.

The makers of Loose Change have a statement in their video that reads:
ANY PUBLIC PERFORMANCE, UNAUTHORIZED COPYING, OR DISTRIBUTION VIA THE INTERNET IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.
So I don't think Louder Than Words would have much of a case against it.

But LTW themselves are in legal trouble over clips used without permission, and this video possibly could be subject to the same objections. However, this is clearly a commentary on a creation, and not a creation itself that could stand on its own, and is not being sold. I think it has a much better case under Fair Use. I also think that those going after LTW for copyright infringement would have little motivation to go after this video, given its intent.
