Oh, no!!! My memory card went poof! and I lost all my pictures!!! As in all of them!

Please please please, send me all the pictures I'm in, plus the ones where I'm not (I don't care about Vegas, I care about the people I met there!) to:

luciana dot nery @ gmail dot com

And send me fast, or I'll cry!

Did you actually reformat your card, or did the card just lose them on its own?

If the former, you are probably out of luck, but if you did not format the card, a decent camera shop should have software which may be able to recover the files.

Oh, no! :(

Luciana, DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE WITH THAT CARD!

Now that I have your attention...of course I will be sending you all the pics I have of people, but you may be interested in getting your own pics back. This software can help:

http://www.lc-tech.com/

Scroll down to where it says "Photorecovery for Digital Media." This is forensic-grade recovery software and it's excellent. Download the free demo (you have to fill out a form) and run the software. Follow the instructions to have it examine your card. If your photos are recoverable, it will be able to show them to you; to actually retrieve them you will have to purchase the software, but it's only $39.95 for a single camera license, and you'll know at that point it can retrieve them. Seems a small price to pay to get precious memories back.

But again, DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE WITH THAT CARD until you've recovered the pics! If you have, you might have messed up the data that could have been recovered.

Good luck!

Try BadCopy Pro, available at http://www.jufsoft.com/badcopy/

I recovered pictures from a corrupted memory card last month using BadCopy.

The trial version allows you to analyze the corrupt medium and see whether there are any recoverable files. If there are, you can then purchase a license key so that you can save the files to disk. That way you don't waste your money if it turns out the files are irretrievable.

Luciana, I'll personally pay for your license key if your photos are retrievable and you'll let me have a copy of them.

Good to know!

This is what happened - I took the memory card off the camera and placed it on my card reader. The first picture opened, the others didn't. So, patiently, I went through Internet Explorer and tried to copy the entire folder to my HD.

Now that I think about it, that memory card was behaving strangely in Vegas. For example, I deleted some pictures, but they remained there. I had to delete a few of them more than twice. And recording seemed particulary slow (but I must have ascribed that to my impatience).

Interestingly enough, some ofthe thumbnails are visible, half of them, actually. But all files are corrupted. I've tried opening it with half a dozen image viewers I happen to have installed, nothing happens.

I placed the memory card back to the camera, and tried to transfer the files directy, through the USB cable. Nothing also. Worse, it asks to reformat the card. That is something I WON'T be doing!

Shane, I'll try on that software later on, I'm just so tired and irritated! Hmph! Do you have a picture of you and I in your camera?? Make sure to send me!

Whichever software she ends up using, I'll gladly thrown in some money to the Save Luciana's Photos fund if need be.

And hey, if one software doesn't work, why not try the other? The demos shouldn't be making any changes to the media, so it shouldn't cause any more damage than there already is.

I wish I could be there to hold and comfort you! :D

As far as the camera thing goes - get rid of it. Go back to film. This whole "digital" thing is a passing fad.

Gone. No more.

The camera doesn't even recognize the card anymore. It beeps incessantly and says "format error". When I put the card on the card reader, it's as if nothing is there.

For the record, it's a 256Mb Sony Memory Stick Pro, which I bought exactly a year ago, at TAM2. Didn't use it much. Didn't dip it in salty water or anything like that. Very proper usage because I'm careful with expensive stuff.

I tested both the card reader and the camera with the 32Mb card the camera came with. This works fine. The problem is definitely with the card.

Thanks everybody for the offer. :) Sometimes I feel as if the whole world is out there to spoil me. :) I can't thank you enough for your kindness.

Solution? None. But I'll be a happier chick if you can send me as many pics as possible. Size doesn't matter. :D Just people, not Vegas. So, come on, I want to see you guys can exceed my 1Gb mail quota!! Just keep sending!

Luciana, seems you're trapped in a kinda demoniac possesion regarding TAM pictures. You lost the TAM1 pics as I recall, and now this :(. Sorry about that. Anyway, there are plenty of TAM2 pics, depicting you and the other folks. You'll get them, not to worry.

BTW, I'm still at the Stardust (1:15 pm here). There are a handful of us still hanging out by the hotel, we'll gather at 5 for the final farewell.

Luciana, the memory card I recovered 30 pictures from had the same symptoms: the camera wouldn't recognize it and Windows indicated the card was unformatted when I put it in the card reader.

Please try the software Shane and I suggested.

BadCopy can often retrieve data when Windows indicates there is nothing there.

Just because Windows and the camera can't read it does not mean that there isn't anything retrievable on the card.

Heck, if you've really given up, PM me and I'll give you my address to mail it. I'll pay for the international postage.

Philip, ok, I will do this later. Now I'm tired and letters are starting to blur (24h en route!), and I'm not thinking straight. So there's still hope! Ah, if that's the case, I'll keep trying!

Yep, Patricio, I left the pictures of TAM1, which I have just developed, inside a bus. Fortunately, I retrieved it at the company's headquarters.

The software I posted should be able to go beyond that. Download the demo and give it a try. It really doesn't care about format; it looks at the individual sectors and tries to reconstruct whatever data it can. As long as those sectors weren't putsched when the format went belly-up, the pics should be okay.

Sometimes, it just stops working. That's the way it is. That's why I download the pics to my laptop as soon as I can.

Solution? None.

Don't write the software I linked to off yet. That company makes great forensic software. I've used their software to get files off a hard drive that had been completely reformatted. I've had it get data from drives that weren't even recognized by the system any longer. Give it a shot.

And I'll send as soon as I get them organized. ;)

Oh no! Luciana, you are the ONLY one who took a pic of my tattoo!!! Bummer!

Let me know if Renata should take a pic (I don't have a digital camera yet :( ).

I'll send you pics as well. But don't expect them to til the weekend as it will take some time to organize them. Actually I will be sending pictures to a bunch of people so they can decide if they want to post them or not.

I ran BadCopyPRo and it said that it restored my files. There's a "preview" button. Nothing came up.

I tried a couple of other software for recovery, nothing. I tried many image viewers, just in case.

What happened? The jpegs are corrupted. About 10-20% of the picture actually shows up, the rest is just a black thing. Don't worry, though, I have extensive coverage of all the ceilings I saw in Vegas!

The software Shane linked to was the best. It was able to recover pictures I had long erased from the memory card! Awesome. But what it recovered was nothing but those same corrupted jpegs. I previewed them all, and it's absolutely not worth it recovering them; the vast majority are just dark patches.

I used so many image viewers I can't recall right now which one worked. But two, yes two, of those pictures I could open and save again as jpeg.

So here they are, my two pictures:

Please do so, Kiless!

And everybody - I'm short of pics of the Wednesday night birthday party. I only have two!!!! So if anyone has them, please send them to me. :) Thanks!
