Murdoch offers some light relief

According to this article in the Guardian Rupert Murdoch, who apparently now sees himself as American, believes that Americans have an "inferiority complex" and are too worried about what the rest of the world thinks about the war.

Much as I like and respect my American friends, I had completely failed to spot that American inferiority complex and the massive US concern about what everyone else thought of the war.

He said he believed Americans had an "inferiority complex" about world opinion and that Iraqis would eventually welcome US troops as liberators.

Mr Murdoch told a conference in California it would be "better to get [the Iraq] war done now" rather than have a longer conflict that could prove more damaging to the world economy.

"We worry about what people think about us too much in this country. We have an inferiority complex, it seems," he said at the Milken Institute Global Conference yesterday.

That's pretty funny. I, too, missed the overwhelming US concern for what the rest of the world thinks. Guess it must be the conservative media bias...

Look at some old polls. There are many americans who felt we should have had UN approval or a large coalition. One of the big memes that is trying to get propagated here is that we can't do things unilaterally. Politicians have given voice to it and so have the pundits.

There are many hand-wringers worried about what other countries think of the war, some even on this message board.

Maybe the inferiority is sexually based (isn't everything?), like in George Carlin's view of the "bigger dick theory" of war:

Ah, yes, the NEW YORK POST and FOX NEWS--bringing you all the news the other newspapers and stations are too smart to print.

Just that you get an idea of the quality of that paragon of good reporting, the "New York Post", two days ago its headline was "JETER'S TRAGEDY" (apparently, a baseball player was hurt in a game and broke something).

Below that, in small print, there was all this boring stuff about a war going on somewhere in the middle east, etc.

The New York Post is a city paper, which has the primary goal of covering New York. It's secondary goal is coverage outside the city.

I haven't read the NY Post in many years......

1) Derek Jeter dislocating his shoulder the first game of the season IS big news to Yankee (ewww) fans.

2) The NY Post used to have an excellent editorial page. I used to wish Newsday was half as good.

Nobody ever mistook the NY Post for a hardcore news source..... not EVERYONE wants hardcore news with their morning coffee.

Yah, 'tis. They actually have a great winning percentage since he joined the team for games he didn't play though... go figure.

My dad was a Mets fan & so we were naturally brought up as Mets fans. It does seem to be some kind of unwritten rule in NY that you have to LOVE one team & DESPISE the other. So sorry guys..... I'm forced to say it again..... Yankees..... EWWWWW.

But Derek Jeter IS a fantastic player and a great asset to the (ewwwww) Yankees, even if George (Uggggggh) Steinbrenner doesn't like to say so! ;)

The Mets? Only 160 games to go & I'm SURE they'll win a game sooner or later..... I just hope it's THIS season. LOL

I'm a hardcore Yankees fan... but not a rabidly hardcore fan.

No problem with the Mr. thing..... it's the darned nickname's fault, not yours.

In all honesty, I stopped following baseball after that last strike. I used to be a rabid fan but that strike really killed it for me.

I hated PIazza a lot more when he played for the (ewwww, Da bums) Dodgers than I have liked him playing as a Met. I guess I would have liked him a lot better if he retaliated against Clemons (sp?) for throwing that bat at him. But on the other hand, I would have liked ANYONE to go after Clemons.... just for being such a nasty (Ex Red Sox ewwwww. That's for you Yankee fans) person.

All these professional players are a bunch of overpaid cry babies, if you ask me. (Which you didn't, but luckily for you I told you anyway. lol)

Boy, I better quit here..... it seems I hate EVERYONE tonight. Haha

True; if the Mayor had resigned, or an earthquake hit the city, or a general strike was declared, etc., then that would justify the headlines in a city newspaper above the news of an ongoing war.

But a baseball player dislocating his shoulder?

P.S.

The problem with the Post and the Daily News is that EVERYTHING is in REALLY LARGE FONTS on the front page, no matter what. So when an event that actually justifies such fonts occurs--e.g., 9/11--they had nothing left!
 
Yes I seem to remember one headline from the Post:

Donald Trump, "The Best Sex I Ever Had"

referring to Marla Maples...

serious journalism there ;)
