:cool:Cannabis, hemp, or marijuana is the world's most valuable plant yet it remains illegal in America. Valuable? How so? George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and virtually all of America's founding fathers believed hemp was the most commercially important crop in the world and encouraged all Americans to grow it.

Why? Because hemp had been used for thousands of years to make rope, canvas, the strongest, most durable clothing, even the finest lace. In addition, the seeds produce three times more oil than any other plant seed, environmentally friendly oil that, experts today say, can handle upwards of 90% of our total energy needs.

Also, after the oil has been removed from the seeds, these seeds can be ground into a flour that can produce some fine tasting bread. The cellulose in the plants fibers can be used to make thousands of environmentally friendly plastics. In fact, about a third of a Mercedes body consists of industrial hemp today.

The finest paper can be produced from hemp too. Hemp can be grown in the poorest soil, always enriching the soil in which it is planted. At least one, sometimes two crops can be harvested from the same field each year. Trees, on the other hand, require about 20 years before they are ready for paper production.

In addition to all these industrial uses, the flowers which contain the THC, have also been used for thousands of years as medicine. According to Rick Simpson, he has been using HEMP OIL to activate the natural immune system and cure cancer. Of course, marijuana has also been used to help glaucoma patients, and relieve the suffering of folks receiving chemo and radiation treatments.

So, if this plant is so wonderful, why is it illegal in America. Folks like DuPont, Rockefeller, and other wealthy folks conspired to make it illegal because you can't get an exclusive patent on the stuff. No patent, no big bucks!

It's quite an interesting story, how the wealthy industrialists conspired to eliminate this plant. We are talking about big time corruption.

Is there any actual evidence that hemp oil is effective against (any kind of) cancer, other than Rick Simpson's say-so?

Who are the experts who say that hemp can handle up to 90% of our energy needs? That sounds kinda high... (:))

I think growing hemp is illegal due to politics, so I guess this is the right forum. But some of your claims sound a little overstated. Do you have any actual scientific evidence for any of this?

For the record, I'd love to be able to grow it on my land, for the fiber crop. My land is marginal at best and that is one crop that would possibly grow here. But, some of the proponents of hemp have some pretty goofy beliefs *NOT* backed up by scientific evidence - one claim being that hemp is from another planet! It's hard to believe some of what is said.

Growing hemp is entirely legal in Europe. It has it's benifits but not on the scale you describe.

Most valuable plant would probably be some of the harder to breed orlimental orchids.

Other options would be Saffron crocus perhaps? Stuff from the Nicotiana genus?

It's a good plant with some good benifits. Let's legalize all hemp including plants high in THC but let's not have unwarranted expectations.

I am in favor of the decriminzalation of Marijuana, but don't site a bunch of woo snake oil medical claims to justify it.
I would just love some of the supporters of legalized Hemp to admit they are not really the concerned about it's practical uses; they just want to get high.

Those experts better stop smoking their product. Hemp produces oil at about 15 gallons per acre per year. To replace petroleum (which isn't even 90% of our energy) you would have to plant the entire surface of the planet, oceans included.

What also helped was quitting pot. I don't know if the same goes for you, but my personal observation is that most truthers are total potheads. A different breed than your typical pothead-- they can remain somewhat coherent and actually engage in activity if compelled enough. They think that they have a rare ability to work through their highs, and in some cases it's true. Unfortunately for them, they neglect to realize the effects that chronic pot-smoking has on reasoning, critical thinking, and outright paranoid delusions.

Somebody's been reading "The Emperor Wears No Clothes."

FWIW, I agree with many of Jack Herer's opinions regarding the suppression of hemp in the US, although he is prone to hyperbole in some instances. MJ may not be the wonder crop he makes it out to be but with removal of the current restrictions at least scientists could jump on the bandwagon and see what hemp agriculture could give us.

Nature's most valuable plant? With respect to life on earth, it is undoubtedly, blue-green algae. Without blue-green algae, there would be little or no free oxygen on earth. These brave pioneers ate CO2 and pooped oxygen. Unfortunately, oxygen is poisonous to BGA, so most of them died in their own excrement, though some survive in anaerobic environments. They died so we could live. Free oxygen is absolutely required for all advanced life forms on earth.

Including hemp.

Pretty much everything you've posted is BS, but this is life threatening.

If this "Rick Simpson" has been saying this to actual cancer patients and they believe him, are you aware Simpson could be charged with murder?

We know what hemp can do. Enough of it is grown in europe.

I don't have a problem with legalizing hemp but the above statement is wrong.

It is true you could not patent the plant (unless you genetically modified it) but you could patent the manufacturing process and even some of the various uses. Failing that, drug companies could always grow, package, and sell the stuff to make tons of money. If what you said is true, there would be no cotton industry.

Hemp is illegal for social reasons not conspiratorial ones. Some people are deathly afraid of other people having fun.

It always makes me laugh when someone uses the argument "Hemp can be used for fibres, oil etc etc , so why can't I grow it in my garden?". You're not allowed to grow it because 99.99% of the people who would grow it wouldn't be doing it to make clothes and hemp oil. If you're going to use that argument, why can't we all grow coca, because it's a lovely looking houseplant? Why can't I buy the neccessary ingredients for a meth lab? They arn't just used for making drugs you know.

Oh and by the way, since when have you not been able to buy hemp oil or clothes made from hemp? I can buy hemp oil and hemp clothes in Tesco. Presumably you're too stoned to find them in the supermarket and spend your time talking to the radishes?

Technically, Cyanobacteria, not algae. They still grow some wonderful stromatolites at Shark Bay in Western Australia, and only a day trip away are some of the oldest fossilised stromatolites yet found. Fascinating creatures.

Crop grade hemp has a pretty minimal THC content.

Because we want you to learn more than the most basic organic synthersis.
