New Prison Images Emerge
Graphic Photos May Be More Evidence of Abuse
By Christian Davenport
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, May 6, 2004; Page A01

"The collection of photographs begins like a travelogue from Iraq. Here are U.S. soldiers posing in front of a mosque. Here is a soldier riding a camel in the desert. And then: a soldier holding a leash tied around a man's neck in an Iraqi prison. He is naked, grimacing and lying on the floor...."

Comment:
Pictured is the infamous Lynndie England, the same soldier with the thumbs up photo previously censored on this forum. She is the one holding a leash tied around a naked prisoner -- undoubtedly too graphic for the high minded JREF forum to publish, but not the Washington Post.

People involved in this had damn well better be court martialed and thrown in jail.

Does anyone know if these people might look forward to the stockade, and if so what the conditions are in the stockade as opposed to civilian prison?

Most likely the "stockade" will be Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Not a pleasant place, unless I am seriously misinformed.

Prison in the USA, civilian or military, is much worse than what these malefactors have done. No that's not an excuse.

I hope these people aren't being scapegoated.

Scapegoated!?!
:jaw:

Not only did these people do something reprehensible, But they added to their stupidity by taking PHOTOGRAPHS of what they've done. These folks need to be culled from the herd.

Yeah scapegoated. I trust I don't have to explain to you what that is.

Yes they do, but I want to be sure it's not the leaders of the herd who are really responsible.

I agree. The actions of these morons have eclipsed the sacrifices of people like Pat Tillman, and the animosity their actions engendered could cost the lives of troops captured in the future. Part of me wants to waive regulations and hand these people over to a future Iraqi court, as that would be the most satisfactory and apt punishment. But we cannot do such a thing because to turn over our troops to a hostile foreign court would be to break faith with all our troops who rightly expect to be tried under military law no matter their offense.

I hope their crimes will be investigated fully and publicized so that other guards will get a clue. This whole thing is really the commander's fault. I want to see her cashiered along with her subordinates. When command structure fails anarchy reigns...and like in "Lord of the Flies" the savage comes out and indulges it's whims.

I mistrust government officials as much as the next guy, and I'd love to see Rumsfeld taken down, but I really can't imagine this behavior being condoned by anyone past the local CO. At least I hope not.
