I have used this figure before, and pilloried for it.

That conflict cost about 2 million Vietnamese military and civilian lives, the deaths of more than 55,000 U.S. servicemen and women, and about 6,000 service personnel from South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.

Now, CNN is not the be all and end all of sources, but it is pretty conservative (from my point of view), and I find this figure to be a minimum. There may be a million more, but either way, at least 2 million.
