Mickey Kaus is a reporter who blogs for Slate (although his blog has temporarily moved to his campaign website while he runs for senate). He's running for Senate in the California democratic primary against Barbara Boxer. This is admittedly a long shot, but he has some interesting things to say. He's more center/right than Boxer. He's anti-union, anti-amnesty.

Check out his campaign site/blog:

I've enjoyed reading Kausfiles over the years, and I would vote for Mickey in a heartbeat over clueless Babs Boxer, but I gotta say that this is a hopeless candidacy. Yeah, Kaus may get some tepid support from moderate conservative bloggers like me, but he still endorsed Kerry in 2004. And the liberal Democrats who will be voting in the primary are not going to be thrilled with many of the other things he's said.

Entertaining blogger, just the same.

Would Donald and Goofy still be working with him?
What? It's Kaus? With a K?
Never mind.

Kaus has long been an advocate of Democrats being just like Republicans. He'd be better off running in a place like Idaho. I wouldn't vote for him in a Dem primary unless the other choice was the ever-sniveling Lieberman.

Mickey Kaus makes the unpardonable mistake of thinking that the purpose of government should be to benefit the people in general, and be responsive to their needs and desires. He doesn't realise that the true purpose of government is to benefit government employees and should be responsive to their desires at the expense of the general public.
