he's one of the pigs in the book animal farm.

what a fat slob.

I wouldnt say anything if he hadnt gone to great lengths to photoshop his fat ass back to skinny somehow on his book covers and movie posters...

"But speaking here in my capacity as a polished, sophisticated European as well, it seems to me the laugh here is on the polished, sophisticated Europeans. They think Americans are fat, vulgar, greedy, stupid, ambitious and ignorant and so on. And they've taken as their own, as their representative American, someone who actually embodies all of those qualities."

I have seen Michael Moore in person and he is very large. This cannot be emphasized enough.

I like Moore, but denying his fatness would be a grave sin.

He's an award winning film maker and a millionaire. You are a loser. Who's laughing now?

Yes, he is. But then again, John Gotti was a millionaire, too. If you have the choice of becoming a millionaire by deliberate and knowing distortions of the truth and passing them on as a 'documentary', then you should morally choose not to become a millionaire and remain a "loser".

Moore's weight problem is, to be fair, not really relevant to his work. Nevertheless it is the "icing on the cake" in one sense: for many Europeans, the American is a caricature of somoene who is fat, over-ambitious, has a simplistic world view, believes in conspiracy theories, is self-centered, self-important, hypocritical, and fanatical.

Due to his weight problem, they found in their "hero" Moore an American who personifies every single one of these unpleasant qualities, when they would have to leave "fat" out if he was of normal weight. It completes the series, so to speak, for maximum irony.

FRENCH awards, the same french who hilariously lost to the nazis and had their general march in on VE day as if they actually did anything.

You're gay, and I don't mean the kind of gay that I tolerate in normal gay guys and don't make fun of. You're FRUIT-gay. You like musicals. Fag.

Don't ever try to make out with me if we ever meet in person. I bet your the type of homo who would probly try and make a move on a straight guy, me, because you're stupid!

This is a warning to you that this post is in violation of the jerk rule. This is your official warning. Further violations could lead to your being suspended from the forum.

For many Americans, the European is a caricature of someone who thinks the American a caricature of someone who is fat, over-ambitious, possessing of a simplistic world view, credulous in regard to conspiracy theories, self-centered, self-important, hypocritical, and fanatical. Hitchens is one of a few haughty bastards that give us that idea.;)

I would take the million and laugh while losers like Winky Tinky Wussy whined about it!

All in all, wouldn't becomming a millionaire regardless of the mechanism you came up with to achieve that goal be good?

After all, if you go into business hauling trash and make a fortune, you're still rich.

As for distortions, just look to your favorite drug abusing Rush Limbaugh for an example. If not the oxycontin clouded ditto-brain, there's always Fox news.

"This year's jury in Cannes is headed by Quentin Tarantino and also includes director Jerry Schatzberg, Kathleen Turner, Tilda Swinton and others."
Ah, well, like all the French they are probably hilarious gay nazi-lovers, too!

There's a difference between hauling trash and making trash.

Rush has at least slimmed down a lot over the years. Whether or not this is related to his admitted drug problem, I have no idea.

I don't understand how any skeptic could support Moore. He's been busted so many times for deception and misrepresenting situations in his film.

If you want to make a documentary about something that supports your political views, by all means do it. But have some integrity and don't cop out thinking the ends justify the means.

Because a man that slings feces, even for a noble cause, at the end of the day is still covered in feces himself.

You should? My principles aren't worth that much. :D I'ts not that I don't have any integrety, but if somebody's willing to pay me a couple of millions for it then just tell me what facts to distort. :p

He went on the Atkin's diet, although I have noticed that pain killers reduce appetite.

(snip)

Yeah, sure... that's a good comparison. Mob boss and unscripted political comedy.
Let's be honest here... because Michael has been... at worst, it's an Op-Ed piece done on film, at best it's a brilliant (based on technical merits of entertaining film footage that also deliver information that is denied to the average American) documentary-style comedy packed with insights (opinions and facts arranged to fit them) and amazing (albeit selected) facts that people generally don't know or don't get to hear about.

More accurately, it is a political satire/cartoon. No different than Doonesbury or an old ink-drawing of teapots to represent the teapot dome scandal of the late 19th century. He's just introduced a new style to deliver the same type of content... it looks like a documentary... and is, based on format... but he didn't stick to a scientific treatise on the proper way to bore an audience to death... big whoop!

If you want to see something else, get Rush to move out of his little studio and start filming... then watch to see the theaters fill with... empty seats.

There is nothing immoral about doing political satire... even if you can educate people at the same time... particularly when he doesn't explain it any other way himself. It's not like he's FOX news and he's pretending to call it "news".... if you have a problem with this kind of one-sided presentation, why haven't I heard people complaining about the news media who have been promoting the Bush agenda? Those advocates are actually lying to you about their intentions... you have a better moral argument against those outlets than entertainment giants like M_Moore. (pun intended to keep me on-topic)

He says he went on a diet, but of course being a drug user (addict/abuser/whatever) is going to affect one's weight.

But he has other health concerns that may be related to his weight loss. He went deaf (and it didn't affect his listening skills on the radio) because he Acquired an Immune Defficiency through some process or Syndrome that I find a little mysterious. I'm told by the reliable and balanced press that being an addict and strung out on drugs for enough years may eventually cause a person to Acquire an Immune Defficiency Syndrome via that disease (addiction). But for a couple years, I didn't know what a big drug addict Rush was (it didn't seem to affect his work performance... not a real challenging job though), so I only knew that he was doing something to cause him to Acquire an Immune Defficiency... some Syndrome or disease... and one came to mind for me... but no one in the public media would ever discuss it... yet it always seemed obvious to me.

His father was a rich owner of baseball teams and radio stations. Rush never held a job in his life that he wasn't given by his father originally. But it wasn't radio where he started out... Rush has said that before he went to radio, he got his daddy to give him work around the ballparks... and the locker rooms of semi-pro athletes... and Rush clearly had no inclination to participate in athletics (quite obese until recently)... so his interest in men running and bending over for balls and swinging clubs and going into the locker room to shower up... well, that must have been based on something other than wanting to be an athlete himself. Then there was the marriage to a woman he'd never met in person (beards over the internet). Then came the sudden weight loss... which is common to people with cancer, or some diseases like AIDS. And then he Acquired an Immune Defficiency... I wasn't surprised. AIDS is not that uncommon in our society... especially with all the signs there. The weight loss seemed obvious to me and predictable.

But I was surprised to find out that a junkie who has abused drugs extremely hard and for an extremely long period of time can also Acquire an Immune Defficiency... just like Rush... just from the prolonged effects of the drugs on their system. So now I'm confused, I don't think I'll ever get an honest answer about how he lost the weight. But I'm pretty sure it was less about Atkins than about his... lifestyle choices.

Like Ken Lay? Halliburton? Or is it only "good" to cheat your way to wealth if you are a lefty?

I was under the impression that it was all the Tylenol that he was taking. I think Tylenol is an ingredient in generic Vicodin. This is another peeve of mine, off topic. Tylenol is added to narcotic pills and it's the Tylenol that makes them so dangerous. My Percocets have 650 millgrams of Tylenol in each pill that I don't need.
