Men dominate higher math

We recenty read about the study that, using SAT scores, men have
a higher median IQ by 4 points. Here is a detail from the study:


660,270 males took the [2004 Math SAT], 758,737 females.

On the math test, 21,507 males were above 750, with 9,800 females above 750.


Also, my guess is that if you looked at who scored below 300, there would be a lot more men that women.
Women are more likely to bunched near the median.

So 9,800 women scored higher than about 640,000 men by scoring above 750 on the SAT. It's amazing women were kept out of the mathematical professions to the extent they were, given the demonstrated mathematical talent of so many of them.

This is kind of surprising, considering that women are the ones with the ability to multiply.

Why, by the numbers there you would expect about a third of them in high end profeshions.

The interesting thing is that the percentage of women getting those sorts of degree's has been decreasing the last 20 years.

My experience is mainly with mathematics/statistics Ph.D.'s, but the percentage of women among those getting Ph.D.'s in math/stat has been increasing (with fluctuations, of course) since the mid-80's from around 20% to around 30% these days.
