Hey maybe this thread will talk about Bigfoot Zombies and thier psychic powers before we are done, since derails seem to be the nature of plasma threads.

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html

Shows a star forming region and mentions some of the plasma physics that certain camps, the plasma cosmology and plasma universe people, say isn't aknowledged in astrophysics.

So, in lieu of the hordes of posters rushing to discuss your topic, what do you think are the psychic powers of the Bigfoot Zombies and how are they related to the topic of plasma physics?

I think they use magnetic reconnection and double layers to stay invisible and that thier space craft are powered by Birkeland currents.

(Gosh I am being inflamatory.)

Umm, here is the caption for that APOD:

This tantalizing array of nebulae and stars can be found about 2 degrees south of the famous star-forming Orion Nebula. The region abounds with energetic young stars producing jets and outflows that push through the surrounding material at speeds of hundreds of kilometers per second. The interaction creates luminous shock waves known as Herbig-Haro (HH) objects. For example, the graceful, flowing arc just right of center is cataloged as HH 222, also called the Waterfall Nebula. Seen below the Waterfall, HH 401 has a distinctive cone shape. The bright bluish nebula below and left of center is NGC 1999, a dusty cloud reflecting light from an embedded variable star. The entire cosmic vista spans over 30 light-years, near the edge of the Orion molecular cloud complex some 1,500 light-years distant.

Where do they mention plasmas?

Do they have to say the word plasma, so often in physics people mention the end result of the phenomena without mentioning the interevening processes. I am just pointing out that plasma is part of astrophysics. I am assuming that the jets are plasma would be the short answer.

OOOPs, I forgot to ost the archive link again!

Drat!

Isn't there a difference between an ionized gas and a plasma? I thought most of the emission nebulae were ionized gas, including the gas around these H-H objects.

I saw that one of the APOD links mentioning plasma had as it's subject matter the solstice.....is there some sort of wierd druid-plasma thing going on here?:D

You're just being silly.

Picture from March 2001- peak of Solar activity cycle
Orman also notes that this picture carries a special significance as we experience the maximum of the solar activity cycle. The electricity and telephone transmission lines along the canal symbolize power and communications grids which are most vulnerable to outbursts from the active Sun.

But a search of the same site for Electricity does reveal no mention of electricity in regards to any event in the entire cosmos. According to that NASA run site, there has never been any electricity involved in any picture of the day, unless they were discussing spacecraft or power lines.

Now David, you know that kind of mockery is mean spirited bullying ;)
