I like where Matt's at with this. I personally am still in the ridicule them phase.
The whole not suffering fools gladly, and all.

I look back now and I’m actually a little embarrassed that Truthers used to get under my skin so much. Now I really just feel badly for them; the whole phenomenon is really sad. One of my friends has a really sweet dog that was a completely normal, healthy puppy until this past summer, at which point it suddenly started getting obsessed with its shadow – it sits there studying it and then every ten seconds or so it’ll jump on it with both paws. Then it backs up, waits another ten seconds, and tries again. This goes on for hours and hours. The dog is only a couple of years old, and this brain-freeze situation is only getting worse. Every time I see her, it makes me want to cry. That’s kind of how I feel about Truthers now. I used to get upset whenever they sent me those 14,000-word letters, but now I just wish someone would give them a hug or something.

Meh. I don't feel the same way at all. I think Matt's simply seen a larger percentage of merely delusionary but otherwise honest truthers. But we here who've dug into things like Steven Jones's deceptions, DRG's back-turning on factual evidence, and Gage's... well... completely wilful oblivion have a different view. We see the intentional dishonesty. We see the liars. And I cannot deal with knowing about that by just hugging those folks.

The whacked out weirdos who were merely deluded (like poor Ace Baker, who was actually an utterly wonderful guy according to Pomeroo) I could just hug. Folks like that need it. But the intentional liars... I just wish they could be charged with fraud or something. It's one thing to believe in a delusion, it's another to continue to pitch it as a living in the face of masses of information proving the delusion to be false.

But that's me. I think if Taibbi were to see the other group to the degree that we do, he'd be less tolerant.

I'd be willing to bet that the intentional liars are outnumbered by the delicate, deluded flower children living in fantasy land by over 100 to 1. Think about it -- this isn't a very lucrative place to sell stories. Someone willing to fabricate nonsense can do a lot better.

Even the likes of Gage, maybe even Alex Jones, I believe, have some issue that makes them personally believe at least some of what they're selling.

I've felt like Taibbi ever since my debate against Tony Szamboti. Somehow typing it on a discussion board insulates you -- you can imagine that, yeah, they're saying all kinds of nonsense, but they must be more reasonable than that... until you hear it coming out of their mouths in person. Then it's just really, really unfortunate. :(

I would disagree with your ratio of liars to deluded flower children. In reality, I have only encountered maybe a couple of deluded flower children who were most likely twoofers, but I didn't take the time to get to know them. I have, however, encountered plenty of individuals who if they were twoofers, would definitely be willing to lie about anything to get their point across. With prominent twoofers, while I think there is something mentally wrong with all of them, the only one who is a true deluded flower child would be Judy "Space Beam" Woods. Other then that, the rest of them are blatant deceitful liars.
