Investigator finds reasonable grounds for claim of atheism firing

LEWISTON, Maine --An investigator for the Maine Human Rights Commission has found reasonable grounds for a manager's claim that he was fired from his job at DeCoster farms because he's an atheist.

Cacy Cantwell says Austin "Jack" DeCoster told him before he was fired that they might have to "part ways" because Cantwell didn't believe in God.

The guy got fired because the owner didn't like his atheism and didn't approve of him living with his girlfriend. Fortunately, he lives in a state where discrimination against atheists is considered to be religious discrimination.

DeCoster is the region's largest brown egg producer.

This kid will only be buying white eggs for awhile. Oops, that's discrimination!

Which would be every state. Didn't the Supreme Court rule athiesm was a religion in the sense that it deserved all the same Constitutional protections a "normal" religion did?

But now that I think about it, I don't know if there's a national law covering religion and employment. Certainly the government (at all levels) is forbidden via the first ammendment, but private enterprises wouldn't be unless Congress specifically passed a law.
