I was going through some of my old video tapes looking for stuff to post here when I came across something I had forgotten about. (I used to always keep a video tape ready to record any magic or juggling that happened to be on).
Back in the mid 80s I was watching a CNN program with "crystal therapist" Brett Bravo. She was taking calls from viewers and telling them what kind of crystals they should be using for their various ailments. The host of the show wasn't being very critical at all, as we have all learned to expect. I was outraged and so I called up and got on the air.
I told her that there was this organization known as Committee for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal and there was this fellow named James Randi who would certainly award her his $10,000 prize if she could prove and of the fantastic claims she was making. I asked her if she would agree to put any of her claims to the test.
As I'm sure you can imagine she said she wasn't
interested in proving anything. She said there were scientists doing research and she would leave it to them.
I had totally forgotten that she had mentioned the name of the fellow doing the research: Marcel Vogel.
Back then, before the internet, I'm sure I could have found out more about this guy, but I didn't bother. Of course, now we have Google! I just took a look, and while Macel Vogel may have been a scientist, it looks like he was as woo as they come!
Take a look:
