Loud (and good) Tiny Cell Phone Speakers

I saw my sister recently, as we are all together for the holidays. She has a new cell phone (I believe an LG) and when it rang, I noticed something. It sounds really good. Loud and ... good. Not too tinny or cut-off.

It has two stereo speakers on it, each smaller than a penny (like maybe a half inch diameter) and, although it doesn't sound like a home hi-fi system, I was very surprised at how decent it was for the extremely small size.

I'd really love to put together a system with such speakers, that would be small enough to clip to the back of a phone or PDA, but have the power and bass to listen to at a reasonable level without it sounding like a paper-cup telephone.

Does anyone know if there is some new type of technology being used in creating small speakers while maintaining good acoustic characteristics? Or where one might aquire the components of such?

I'd very much appreciate it

Sony Ericsson has been doing similar high-quality speakers on their walkman phones. They're either using neodymium or neotitanium magnets.

Although now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the neotitanium are a Creative brand technology.

I LOVE my LG CU500. The sound quality is the best of any cell phone I've heard. And with the earphones, it sounds just as good if not better than any iPod or other player!

I also have a RAZR v3i with iTunes. The LG kicks it's butt and takes names.
