Just kidding. I thought it would be fun to call a Republican politician a "woo-woo" for no reason--turning the tables, so to speak.

This is a joke to you Americans, but it's really really happening over here in the UK.

This morning Michael Meacher MP announced that in the event of Tony Blair resigning (something he's expected to do in May), he will challenge Gordon Brown, the heir apparent, for the leadership of the Labour Party and consequently the Premiership.

Michael Meacher was a prominent and significant left-wing Labour MP, with a very high profile throughout the Thatcher years of Labour opposition. In 1997 he was rewarded with a ministerial post, although he was undoubtedly thought of as too left wing, and too much of a loose cannon to be appointed to Cabinet rank. He returned to the back benches in 2003. I admired him for many years.

Unfortunately he appears to have fallen into woo-ways, to the extent that he contributed a foreword to the British edition of David Ray Griffin's The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions. He has also appeared in interviews in 9/11 conspriacy slanted videos.

It's important to recognise that he's no fly-by-night looney or rent-a-mouth, but a substantial politician with a considerable residue of support within the party within the left-wing rump of the Labour Party.

At this point, I'd like to point the finger at the British and laugh, but as a Finn I can't. Back in the mid-90s when we were just about to join the European Union, we had a cabinet minister from the Christian Party (a minor party they took along into the cabinet so they'd have the backing of over 50% of the parlament) who opposed the move because he was convinced that the EU is the Beast of the Apocalypse.
 
Actually Perry, McCain is going to be speaking at a Discovery Institute event. That qualifies as at least borderline woo in my book.
 
I'm guessing that if Meacher does run he'll be wanting to distance himself from his wooish tendancies, cos if it comes out during the campaign it'll be political suicide.
 
In fairness to Perry, here's a YouTube video of the Students for 9-11 "Truth" presenting Dennis Kucinich with a binder of "research" on 9-11. Kucinich accepts the binder with a minimum of enthusiasm and a maximum of embarrassment; maybe somebody on his staff has finally clued him into what 9-11 "Truth" is all about?

Of course, if they were right about everyone waking up, the conspiracy guys would have a whole party of their own by now, not just the odd politician or two.
