Life is heaven for some, hell for others

It is quite amazing the differences in some peoples lives. You really wonder if it's just fate...and what fate *is* exactly.

You can be watching tv. On one channel, they are showing "Cribs". Scuzbag punk rockers are showing off their pads, pool, cars, etc. They appear healthy. Life is one big party. They've got women hanging all over them. They got life by the balls.

Then you turn the channel to the health channel. There is some guy who got some cut. The doctors bandage it. The guy comes back in and shows the doctor how is skin is turning black all over, one thing leads to the next and the poor guy has all his limbs amputated because of some ski9n/tissue eating disease.

Then there are others who simply seem to be at the right time and have all the luck. Others have no luck at all.
Some say that luck is a bunch of baloney. They say that you make your luck.

For some of us, life is sort of middle of the road. Good and bad mixed. So....life is sort of like a water faucet. For some, it's all hot water. For others it's all cold water. And for others (perhaps the majority) warm water comes out.

I have come to one conclusion about the very successful of people: They have no fear. They are willing to take risks. They are not intimidated by people. They are good talkers. And/or they have some VERY special talent. But above all, they 'carry themselves' as if they are the greatest. And people buy into it. Then these people actually BECOME the greatest. If you are timid, you are not going to get anywhere in life unless you are a good inventor or author. Learn how to command people and you will be a success. You will get to live your heaven right here on earth.

For some of us, life is sort of middle of the road. Good and bad mixed.

If you consider luck as a scalar graph from very bad to very good, and plot the general population on this graph, it is likely that it will represent a normal curve (or bell curve) since luck is just the sum of all the things beyond our control that happen to us, good and bad. A few will tend to fall on the far end of the bad luck side, a few on the good luck side, and the vast majority will fall somewhere in the middle. Of course it is those on the ends who tend to end up in the news. Major success and major tragedy always make a better story than the average Joe. There is no real significance in this apparent polarization.

P.S. I agree that boldness counts for a lot in achieving success. Everyone is subject to the whims of fate, but since this is true whether you are bold or timid, you may as well be bold. You can only win if you play the game.

I went to high school with a guy who was pretty much a total loser. He went to university and took some useless course like medieval philosophy or something like that. The kind of courses that when you get your degree there is a McDonald's job application stapled to it. Anyways, he now makes over $500,000 a year selling some kind of computer program or something. Even he admits he was in the right place at the right time.
I know other people where everything just seems to work out great. Pisses me off because few things seem to work out great for me.

All the darring and guts in the world, won't help you if you're born crippled, in a shaty town on the outside of Nairobi.

A chinless wonder can rise to become the president of the USA if he's born in the right circumstance.

Fate is just circumstance and chance
Fate is everything

Walking down Madison - I swear I never had a gun
No I never shot no-one - I was only having fun
Walking down Madison - swear I never had a gun
I was philosophizing some
Checking out the bums

See you give 'em your nickels, your pennies and dimes
But you can't give 'em hope in these mercenary times, oh no
And you feel real guilty about the coat on your back
And the sandwich you had, oh no

From an uptown apartment to a knife on the A train
It's not that far
From the sharks in the penthouse to the rats in the basement
It's not that far
To the bag lady frozen asleep in the park
Oh no it's not that far
Would you like to see some more?
I can show you if you'd like to

Walking down Madison - I swear I never had a gun
No I never shot no-one - wouldn't do it just for fun
Walking down Madison - trying to keep my head screwed on
I was philosophizing some
Checking out the nuns

When you get to the corner don't look at those freaks
Keep your head down low and stay quick on your feet, oh yeah
The beaming boy from Harlem with the airforce coat
The ones who died
The ones who tried
The ones that sit and gloat

From an uptown apartment to a knife on the A train
It's not that far
From the sharks in the penthouse to the rats in the basement
It's not that far
To the bag lady frozen asleep on the church steps
It's not that far
Would you like to see some more?
I can show you if you'd like to

Within every city and town there's a Madison
Frozen lives for whom nothing's happening
Hungry children is a mother's dilemma
Dumpster diving to feed her baby Emma
So you walk on by like it doesn't affect you
The held out hand that you pay no respect to
Nickels and dimes won't even buy your guilt
Another wino dead burnt to death in his quilt
It's a cardboard city, newspaper metrapolis
The system can't cope or keep on top of this
The outhorities come as you're not for display
Do they solve the problem no they move him away
They're in a vicious circle of no fixed abode
The social won't pay 'em the money they're owed
When you got no money you can't pay rent
Hypothermia kills 'cos the system is bent

From an uptown apartment to a knife an the A train
It's not that far
From the sharks in the penthouse to the rats in the basement
It's not that far
To the bag lady frozen asleep in the park
It's not that far
Would you like to see some more?
I can show you if you'd like to

In the subway sits a vacous man
His grip on life is a bent tin can
It's a holy shrine where he burns his light
It makes things easy and removes his plight
For an hour or two but he can't escape
They're all penned in with government tape
There are good samaritans who bring them soup
The sally army with their bibles and boots
You can see yourselves it's not too far
One short trip you don't know who they are
Till the night comes then it all comes back
Like the smell of patchoulli and the armies of rats
It's a shame to be human it's a human shame
It seems we've forgotten we're one and the same
One and the same
One and the same
No it's not too far
No it's not too far
We're one and the same

I do believe that life treats you the same way you treat it.

If you seat in front of a TV all the time, saying how poor and unlucky you are, that life sux, etc. etc. then this is exactly what you'll get.

Like someone wakes up and finds a zit on his nose. The brain is near it, he knows he is fataly ill. He runs to the doctor - "Doctor, did you ever had a case of recovery form this desease in your career?" Doctor tells him to get out, that it'll go away by itself. He understands that the doctor is incompitent and goes looking for another one... And, sure enough, he might die of this zit.

Or someone else is run over by a bulldozer. But he know's that nothing bad can happen to him. He's petting the nurse in the ambulance and, ignoring the doctor saying that he won't even make it to the hospital, he's planing to take the nurse out on a date this evening, when he gets out. Now he sure will shortly recover and take the nurse out :) .

So, don't say "Life, first you give me 1.000.000$ , then I might consider saying that you're good..." as you won't get anything in advance. Learn to love life the way it is, be greatfull for what you've got ( you're hand and legs are moveing, right? ), be happy and smile all day long... then it might start giving you presents.

Good Luck!
